• Modelling and Visualisation of Annular Flow in Vertical Tubes Jan ’18 - May ’18 Guides: Prof. Aravind Vaidyanathan, Assoc. Prof. Pradeep Kumar P, Dept. of Aerospace Engineering, IIST

Fabricated a 10 feet long experimental rig to generate annular flow in a 1 m long tube with air concentrically inside water stream to capture film features using Planar laser induced visualisation (PLIF) technique.

Experimented with Reynolds no. 7500 - 35000 of water and 750 - 8500 of air and found the film thickness to be 0.2 mm – 0.65 mm in downward and 0.5 mm – 1 mm in upward configurations from image processing.

Modelled and formulated existing theoretical models in MATLAB and improved them to validate the exper- imental results. Error between theoretical and experimental results is found to be less than 10%

• Electric Propulsion: Hall Thrusters Jan ’20 - May ’20 Guide: Prof. K. Bodi, Dept. of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Bombay

Rigorous literature review of 15+ journals on Electric thrusters and their merits over chemical thrusters

Identified the current electric propulsion systems, it’s types and the missions where they are used

Reviewed the problems in Hall thrusters and it’s solutions, both experimentally and computationally COURSE PROJECTS

• CFD Using Finite Difference Method (FDM) Jan ’20 - Mar ’20 Instructor: Prof. J.C. Mandal, Computational Fluid Dynamics, IIT Bombay

Formulated FDM to find the solution of linear advection equation in C for CFL numbers: 0.5, 1 and 1.5

Developed codes for schemes; Jacobi, Gauss Siedel and SOR in C to find steady state temperature distribu- tion on a 2D rectangular plate by solving Laplace equation and validated them using analytical solution.

Modelled the solution of Euler equation in C using Steger and Warming Flux Vector Splitting scheme.

• Design of a Transonic Axial Fan Aug ’19 - Nov ’19 Instructor: Prof. A. M. Pradeep, Aerodynamics of Compressors & Turbines, IIT Bombay

Designed a transonic stage axial fan with hub-to-tip ratio of 0.3 and rotor rotational speed of 8000 rpm

Performed calculations to obtain velocity triangles at mean, hub and tip in M. S. Excel

Numerically simulated the fan stage with 39-rotor & 78-stator blades by solving RANS eqn. in Multall

Modelled and optimised CAD models of transonic fan stage geometry using 3D surface loft in CATIA.

Obtained hub and tip parameters from Meangen and blade profiles using free vortex design-STAGEN.

• Rocket Performance Characteristics Jan ’20 - Feb ’20 Instructor: Prof. Sudarshan Kumar, Aerospace Propulsion, IIT Bombay

Calculated chemical equilibrium product concentration of solid & liquid propellant reactants using NASA CEA software and analysed the impact of metal additives like Boron and Aluminium.

Examined how the change in fuel-oxidizer compositions affected the performance of rocket

• Sample Return Mission from Comet 81P/Wild Jul ’17 - Nov ’17 Instructor: Dr. Ramanan R.V, Aerospace Vehicle Design, IIST

Designed a mechanism onboard the spacecraft in MSc Adams to collect the sample from the comet

Developed optimum trajectory path to comet in MATLAB and explored various propellant systems

Structural analysis of first and second stage propellant tanks were done in Ansys fluent

Modelled the shape of reentry capsule and it’s heat shield and coating based on its thermal analysis WORK EXPERIENCE & INTERNSHIP

• Freelancer Upwork Inc. Mar ’19 - Jul ’19

Landed high-profile jobs from university students related to advanced engg. mathematics and LATEX.

Got recommended to the client’s colleagues frequently Received a rating of 5/5 from several clients and got a feedback that I’m "courteous, resourceful and skilled" and called my work as "Excellent".

• Subject Matter Expert Work From Home Internship, Edufeat Private Limited, Kharagpur Feb ’19 - May ’19

Solved the questions from various branches in engineering, most notably mechanical and math.

Assisted students in assignments related to fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and vibrations.

• Annular Liquid Film Visualisation Internship, Prof. Aravind, Assoc. Prof. Pradeep, IIST Jun ’17 - Jul ’17

Experimentally visualised annular flow in a tube with different mass flow rates of air and water using Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence (PLIF) technique to study film heat transfer characteristics.

Captured film profile and it’s interaction with streams and tube walls. Average film thickness found to be increasing with increase in superficial air and water velocities due to entrapment of air in the water film.

Observed smooth flow near the tube walls and wave like structure near the air-water interface region. POSTER PRESENTATION
