This two year intensive distance learning program prepared BSN Registered Nurses to become Master's prepared Nurse Midwives and to be able to sit for the American College of Nurse Midwives' National Certification exam. The program included a six month preceptorship at Planned Parenthood, Riverhead, NY, which encompassed 240 hours in antepartum, postpartum and well-woman ambulatory gynecological care. I completed a six month intrapartum internship at Coney Hospital, Coney Island, NY, managing low to moderate intrapartum patients. I performed fifty normal spontaneous vaginal deliveries, with experience in first and second degree perineal laceration repair.

I was a clinical research assistant on the Thunder II Pain Management Project at University Hospital Stony Brook, NY. I gave a series of lectures entitled, "Birth: The Midwife Way." to B.O.C.E.S high school nursing students. I received my Master's Degree in Nurse Midwifery in May, 1999.
