Customer focused Professional with strong communication skills, an accountability ethos, and exceptional credentials in Business Development, Quality Systems, and Materials & Processes

EMPLOYMENT:

As AMK’s Quality Manager I lead the resolution of those issues and succeeded in restoring customer confidence, as well as further upgrading AMK capabilities to access new customers and business. As #2 in the organization, I was additionally responsible for oversight of the Sales and Business Development function. During the succeeding period, as the longest tenured manager (serving under several different President / GMs), I evolved to be the go-to face of AMK for its 125+ Customers. Following AMK’s acquisition, by Meyer Tool, in 2017, I moved into a Sales Account Manager role to focus on growing our revenue.

Sales Account Manager: 2017 - 2021

Led internal Sales and Business Development activities, including the quoting process, ensuring timely, competitive, responses to RFQs, and outcomes analysis

Maintained and cultivated key Customer relationships in the field, and served as primary interface, and internal advocate, for Customer requests, issues, and concerns, resulting in a doubling of AMK’s sales during my tenure

Coordinated AMK engineering efforts, e.g., arranging engineering team visits to Customer site(s), to address customer problems, and/or pursue sales growth opportunities, e.g. growing Magellan, Hanwha Accounts to one million dollars

Led efforts to successfully establish AMK as supplier to major DOD Customers including Raytheon / Pratt Whitney, General Dynamics Electric Boat, Lockheed, Northrup, and Aerojet Rocketdyne

Integrated detailed knowledge of AMK internal workings, and Aerospace career experience and contacts to guide, support, and participate in the efforts and goals of Parent “Meyer Tool” Corporate level Business Development

Collaborated with Corporate Business Development to establish new, high value, national business Sectors, including weld repair of Aerospace castings

Drew on my contacts network to facilitate the successful connection of Corporate Business Development to multi-million-dollar accounts, e.g. Rolls Royce, USA.

Developed strategies for business growth and prepared presentations to Meyer Tool Corporate Management Team to establish or modify strategy.

Arranged for AMK’s participation-in, and attended, Industry Association (e.g. Aerospace Components Manufacturers), Trade Shows, and other target rich customer conferences and gatherings

Senior Quality Manager: 2008 – 2017

I was hired to solve serious customer issues related to quality, including: a suspension of AMK’s Pratt and Whitney Supplier status, a Quality Alert status imposed by Nadcap (National Aerospace & Defense Contractors Accreditation Program) and an impending deadline, from largest Customer, to achieve ISO Quality Certification.

I succeeded in resolving Nadcap issue, in achieving AS9100 Certification, and in restoring Pratt Whitney Supplier status. I subsequently led AMK’s achievement of additional Nadcap accreditations (for Heat Treatment and NDE), as well as further upgrading AMK capabilities (e.g. standing-up a metallurgy laboratory), to access new customers and business.

I continued to successfully navigate all Customer, ISO (AS9100), and Nadcap Quality obligations while consistently meeting internal goals of > 97% on-time delivery (OTD) and < 1 % cost of non-quality (scrap and/or re-work cost), while implementing continuous improvement programs, such as 5 S, Lean, Six Sigma

Career Narrative (prior to 2008; presented chronologically)

Mr Flynn started his career at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, in Engineering Division, as a Metallurgist in PW’s world class Materials Development Laboratory (aka MPE) involved in the development of advanced materials and processes for gas turbine engines, and other high technology products. He was particularly involved in the development of Compressor materials and Joining processes (e.g., welding), including joining processes for post-service overhaul & repair. He was frequently called upon for special roles (e.g. internal training) that utilized his strong communication skills. He had additional assignments for Engineering Source Approval (of Supplier processes for critical components), and for on-call support of the Manufacturing Division to address challenging Joining process quality issues. He held numerous patents and published papers. He progressed through Supervisor and Manager positions, and received partial company support for an MBA.

When Pratt Whitney was severely challenged by a historic US Government (EPA) legal action, and associated multi-year “Consent Decree”, Mr. Flynn accepted a new assignment as the Environmental Coordinator of the Engineering Division, reporting directly to the Chief of Engineering Operations. He led the achievement of environmental compliance and improvements in the Division. Subsequently, reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations and Environment, he participated in the establishment of a going-forward Environmental Management System for all of Pratt Whitney. Following the full resolution of the Consent Decree, Mr. Flynn moved on from PW to pursue new opportunities.

Mr. Flynn accepted a position with SEMCOR, a national provider of services to the Government, particularly to Military Bases. He helped establish and co-manage the New England Regional Office of SEMCOR in Middletown, CT. This Office was primarily engaged in the administration and performance of a 5-year contract supporting the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) located in New London, CT and Newport Rhode Island, and particularly supported NUWC’s goal of achieving environmental quality excellence as a so-called “Lean and Green” Military installation. In addition to providing Environmental Quality Management System expertise, Mr. Flynn had responsibility for the Business Development activity of the SEMCOR Regional Office, and developed significant new Commercial Business Accounts, e.g. Northeast Utilities QMS development and auditing support. At the successful conclusion of the NUWC anchor contract, Mr. Flynn separated from SEMCOR.

Mr. Flynn subsequently established a Quality System Consulting Practice, i.e. TQuest. In this role, he lead Organizations in establishing a Quality Management System (QMS) and/or Environmental Management System (EMS), and in achieving the goal of “Certification” of the System(s) to the International Standard of excellence, i.e. ISO 9001 (QMS) or IS0 14001(EMS). TQuest was successful in leading the achievement of ISO 14001 for very large Regional Organizations, e.g. Seabrook Nuclear Station in NH, as well as supporting the QMS & EMS goals and needs of large national organizations such as Dryvit Corporation, headquartered in RI . Mr. Flynn, as a Certified Auditor of several ISO Quality System Standards, performed Quality System auditing for several USA based ISO Registrars and numerous Organizations requiring ISO auditing services, auditing the Quality Management Systems of more than 500 national and international organizations, including for example: NASA, Boeing, Lockheed, Pfizer, Sanmina (Mexico), and Barbados Light & Power (Barbados). Following ~ 8 years of TQuest operation, and in the interests of reducing national/ international travel, Mr Flynn leveraged his strong Quality System background, and aerospace metallurgy & welding process background to secure a Quality Manager position with AMK Welding, a supplier of welded metal components to Aerospace, Energy, and Commercial Sectors
