Assisted in everyday care of animals in assigned areas, this care included daily observations, preparing and distributing diets, daily maintenance of enclosures, creating engaging goal based enrichment calendars, and working to make sure everything is in accordance with United State Department of Agriculture

(USDA), Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), and Animal Welfare standards. Worked to maintain and uphold these standards throughout a global pandemic.

Participated in daily animal training using the S.P.I.D.E.R. (setting goals, planning, implementing, documenting, evaluating and readjusting) method and operant conditioning through positive reinforcement, as well as participating in various medical procedures. These include injection training for anesthesia, training for voluntary echocardiograms, training for voluntary radiographs, and working to train for voluntary blood pressure readings and blood draws.

Worked to create diverse enrichment calendars and growing the enrichment reputare of animals in my section, researched new training programs for gorillas such as Kardia Mobile, and applied for and won a grant to purchase a blood pressure machine for the gorillas.

In addition to every day care, took on a position on the zoo’s Behavioral Resource Team, working to bring training and enrichment content to keepers across the zoo, including organizing and starting an Amazon Wishlist and helped bring enrichment to animals across the zoo.

Gained valuable experience speaking in front of cameras for the filming of Secrets of the Zoo: North Carolina, spoke regularly to large groups of guests during keeper chats and tours, educating people on the importance of conservation, education, and welfare. Assisted in team care of birds, then responsible for primary care of primates in assigned areas. This care included daily observations, preparing and distributing diets, daily maintenance of enclosures, shifting, and distributing enrichment in accordance with the United States Department of Agriculture, Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and Animal Welfare standards.

Participated in daily animal training using the S.P.I.D.E.R. method and operant conditioning through positive reinforcement. These trained behaviors included things such as crate training, injection training and scale training.

Participated in various husbandry and medical procedures. These included assisting in anesthetizing various animals for annual check ups, participating in daily physical therapy of a juvenile gibbon, hand rearing a Ring Tailed Lemur, and assisting in her introductions leading to her being fostered.

Worked with a team of keepers to open a new exhibit, this included; making sure all items that would be needed were available, helping identify problem areas within the exhibit, working with construction crews to place various structures, assisting in the arrival of the 29 Long Tailed Macaques, helping them adjust to their new environment, and lastly helped create a structured enrichment program for them.

Worked with the local American Association of Zoo Keepers chapter to host fundraising events, and took on the role of Conference Chair when hosting the yearly conference. Responsible for primary care to animals in assigned areas including daily animal observations, preparing and distributing diets, and administering medications in accordance with USDA and Animal Welfare standards.

Performed daily maintenance and occasional restoration to exhibits and participated in pest control in accordance with USDA standards.

Actively participated in creating and distributing various enrichment objects and daily training sessions such as shift training with various species of primates and hoofstock.

Worked alongside a team of keepers to monitor behavior, convey any health concerns of animals in my care, as well as assist in capture of animals with health concerns.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo - Cleveland, Ohio

Seasonal Keeper- Primates, Cats, and Aquatics 5.2015-9.2015

Assisted in team animal training procedures with keeper staff, veterinary technicians, and veterinarians using the S.P.I.D.E.R. method and operant conditioning through positive reinforcement. These procedures included blood draw training in gorillas and cheetahs and injection training in mandrills and snow leopards.

Performed daily medical care training sessions using established behaviors such as taking gorilla ear temperatures and heart rates using a Fetal Doppler and administering insulin and getting blood glucose levels in Golden-Bellied Mangabey.

Performed daily care of animals such as maintaining enclosures and tanks, preparing diets, creating enrichment, administering medications, and performing water chemistry analysis in accordance with USDA, AZA, and Animal Welfare standards. Also occasionally performed restoration to exhibits including re-perching exhibits and designing and setting up new aquatic tanks.

Designed and implemented a research project analyzing the amount of time Robust Black Spider Monkeys spent utilizing difficult enrichment items to obtain prized food items.
