GOKUL RAM
I am on a mission to leverage my strengths in analysing and testing ferrous alloys, in-depth knowledge of the microstructure analysis of cast iron, and teamwork and research skills, to kickstart my goal of becoming a Metallurgical Engineer. Actively collaborating with notable companies like Volvo Trucks AB and Scania AB, I studied the thermal and tensile behavior of cast engine samples with an increased Silicon level of 4%, thereby escalating the thermal conductivity by 30W/mK. Going forward my goal is to combine my passion for metallurgy, top-notch analytical, logical and communicating skills and high self-motivation to work closely with experts from metal and material industries and manufacturing business in order achieve my goal of expanding my scope of understanding and become an expert in the metallurgy and research of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.

Held a leading role in the research project on 'The Study of the Effects of Electropolishing Parameters on Maraging Steel' to understand the corrosion and polarization behaviour of maraging steel samples and its electropolishing technique . Regularly reported the progress of the project with my supervisors and took intitiative e to handle and solve any problems that arose with the team.
Developed a realistic and working time plan using Microsoft Project, at the start of the research, which helped my team meet deadlines without any delay.
Internship Trainee
Department of Surface Technology, Jönköping University, Jönköping, Sweden 2019-05 to 2019-08
Worked with a collaborative team for a research project in the University of Jönköping with members from Volvo Trucks AB, Scania AB, SinterCast AB, Swedish Knowledge Foundation and SKF Mekan AB to understand the influence of varying carbon content and cooling conditions on the properties of High Silicon Lamellar Graphite Iron.
Communicated the pitches, research ideas and outcomes with the team and presented reports of the concluded results to higher university supervisors and personnels from Volvo and Scania. Research Intern

Carefully analysed and developed working molds for casting test cylinders of Lamellar Graphite Iron (LGI), at three different cooling rates after running simulations.
Analyzed the thermal and tensile properties of Cast Iron with 4% Si and successfully increased the thermal conductivity of engine samples from 40 W/mK to 70W/mK.
Employed MagmaSoft to simulate mold models for good flow and porosity free solidification of the melt and Matlab to program a code to optimise and extrapolate the raw data from the analyses conducted, to fit the pre-existing mathematical models considered in the study.
Delegated work efficiently with my thesis partner, which enabled us to complete our work in a stress-free atmosphere and meet project deadlines.
Simultaneously handled the LGI casts throughout the cutting, machining and polishing stages, and analyzed thermal properties of cut samples.
Have hands on experience with manufacturing methods like sawing, lathing, straight grinding, and also know how to operate the DSC, Dilatometry and Laser flash apparatus.
Mastered the use of Ultimate Tensile Rig for Tensile testing of cast iron samples.
Mastered the art of embedding samples and also colour etching using Picric and Nital.
Successfully linked the tensile and thermal properties to the microstructure of the LGI samples considered.
