Refrigeration Technician 2018-Present

Working for the cook plant, start up line 4 and line 4 freezer which is a new addition to the plant. Just went through a start up on line 4 in which I pull down the largest freezer in the United States, also pull down 6 evaporators and start up AccuAir 1 through 14 by first starting up a high stage compressor and let it load up 5 percent then go to a low stage compressor let it load up 5 percent and continue this process with all low stage and high stage compressors until the compressor are loaded to 100 percent to allow a gradual pull down and a better trend this way prevents a high level or low liquid level shut down. And when we did have a high level shut down from other reasons got a ammonia hose and hooked it up to the low side oil pot and got rid of the high level or either opened up the freezer doors so the vessel would call for liquid thurs pulling the high level down to assigned liquid level set point to start back up the engine room. In reverse when we had a low liquid level I would either put a coil on the freezer in defrost or pump down one of the evaporators or accuairs so the liquid would come back to the vessels and start back up the engine room. Also do daily work orders as assigned by the supervisor, take all calls concerning the cook plant in refrigeration, pump down and isolate various valves in the refrigeration system. Also open up and inspect the boiler for inspection in which we change worn parts and clean the boiler for scale, change out compressors, pump down compressor, add oil to the compressor, pump down troubleshoot compressor slide valve problems also performed compressor alignment, calibrate compressor, took compressor rounds, boiler and also air compressor rounds. Changed oil pump on compressor. Took samples on the R.O. Systems, drain oil pots, took machines from clean to production mode, took amp readings and amp draw, painted various pipes in the refrigeration system, troubleshoot problems by utilizing the refrigeration diagrams. Change out bad evaporator fans, and troubleshoot evaporator problems. Control condensation by adding hot gas or go up on pressure regulator. Trained on S.O.Ps. Just went through Hazmat training. Changed exhaust fans and troubleshoot ac units over entire plant. Added salt to the R.O. water system and performed chemical test for the R.O. system. Started up the chillers and pulled them down to temperature, took calls from production on the ice house. Performed mechanical integrity maintenance on the vessels, high pressure receiver and also on the compressors. Rebuilt Cornell pumps and also added oil to them when the plunger was protruding out. Troubleshoot pumps by using meters. Also worked on the glycol system by adding water to the glycol to make it a certain temperature and looking in the scope to make sure its at the correct temperature. Draining oil from the system is critical on a refrigeration system in which I do on a weekly basis to make the system run at optimal performance. Also filled out an open line permit before starting work on the system and made sure I had on the proper PPE and back up before opening up the system to atmosphere. Read pin id and schematics when trouble shooting the system. Took readings from the purger for non-condensables. Valved off the liquid and hot gas either on the roof or on the computer and left open the suction to pump down the evaporator to change out the plunger when the gasket went bad on the plunger that caused an ammonia leak. Or either read the arrow flow of the liquid valved it off at the first isolation valve let it pump down through the suction after valve defrosted valved off the second isolation valve carefully remove the pressure gauge now ready to safely work on the isolated area. Changed out the floats, belts, and motors on the condenser towers. Made sure chemicals were feeding into the condenser tower properly. Took calls on the roof top hvac units, cleaned the coils, trouble shoot the compressor common start and run. Hooked up gauges on the high side and the low side to read the pressure to see if refrigerant needed to be added or evacuated from the unit for cooling. Checked the filters for blockage, checked the fan motor for problems when it went bad. Checked the blower for problems, checked the capillary tubes checked the expansion device also checked for voltage at the breaker and on the main. Cleaned the coils, changed the belt on the blower, pumped down the unit, put the unit in a vacuum to leak test and also did leak test with soap bubbles and with a Halide Leak Detector .Wired up and ran the thermostat wire from the thermostat back to the unit. Checked the sight glass on the unit for refrigerant. Checked the slide valve on the unit on the heat pump. Checked the receiver for problems. Made sure the orifice was clean and free of metal when I was having problems with the compressor.

Refrigeration Mechanic 2015-2017

Started up engine room by turning on the right amount of compressors to achieve the right amount of header pressure, next on the computer in the engine room started up the evaporators plant wide after going from clean-up mode to production-mode. Started up blast tunnels by turning on the ammonia, track, and fans to blast the tunnels. Started up bird chillers 1 and 2 by valving on the chilled water then went to the red water chillers and turned them on to achieve refrigeration to the bird chillers 1 and 2 Valved on the bird, paw, liver, neck and gizzard chillers. Started up rotators for mechanically separated chicken for production and started up the refrigeration. Took calls on radio plant wide for refrigeration when product went above temperature of 37 degrees. Took calls on roof top unit when there was a problem. Received daily assignments from lead refrigeration techs such as cleaning the purger, pump down of the compressors, added oil to the compressors, wiped down and cleaned the compressors, cleaned the louvers so the engine room could breathe. Cleaned the engine room on a daily basis, used sulfur sticks to find and fix ammonia leaks. Worked on valves and solenoids to find and troubleshoot refrigeration equipment as well as the roof top units when they were not cooling. During weekends P.M. equipment the chillers 1 and 2 by tightening up the chains on the pre-chiller, the unloaders, and the final chillers. Also tightened the belts, changed the hoses and greased the bearings and other parts of the chillers and and made sure they were ready for production. PM the blast cells by tightening up the chains, did work on the condenser towers by changing out blades, belts bearings and set condenser for operation. Valved off ammonia leaks using the respirator. Set pressure and temperatures by using the refrigeration wrench. Did weekly training at least three hours for ammonia refrigeration systems. Also did HAZMAT training certified as a first responder, CPR certified and went on computer to log time for work on equipment on a daily basis. Also did daily rounds on the boiler every hour and every time there was a boiler alarm I responded to fix the problem.
