Lead Consultant, in Emergency Medicine (11th January, 2015 – To date)

Presently working as Head of Department of Emergency Department, of St. Luke’s General Hospital, Kilkenny, Ireland. This is the Principle teaching hospital for Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). 850 bedded tertiary care hospital & level 1 Trauma centre. Affiliated with University College, Dublin. Annual attendance is around 10, 0000 with a good case mix of adult and paediatric emergencies. Duties & Responsibilities:

• Clinical Duties

i. Provision of a comprehensive Emergency Medicine service, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness and the proper functioning of the department.

ii. Liaison with colleagues in other specialties to achieve such a service. iii. Out-of hour’s responsibilities, including participation in Consultant on-call rota. iv. Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.

• Administrative duties

i. The provision of advice, on the short and long-term planning of comprehensive health provision for the local population, including budgetary responsibilities. ii. To ensure that duties and functions are undertaken in a manner that minimises delays for patients and without any disruption of services. iii. To co-operate with the expeditious implementation of the Disciplinary Procedure. iv. To participate in and facilitate production of all data/information required to validate delivery of duties and inform planning and management of service delivery. Developing a Major incident plan.

v. Periodically review the execution of the Service Plan with the Clinical Director / Employer.
