Work history

Actuarial Intern (2 weeks), 07/2021 to 08/2021

Mazars – London, Greater London

Analytical – Worked with a partner at the firm on an audit proposal and produced a report on the key changes the potential client has gone through over the past few years. The report mainly assessed the impact the pandemic has had on the potential client's risk framework, marketing activity and supplier relationships. The final detailed report helped the audit team prepare the client background section of the proposal.

Written Communication – Completed another research-based task that focused on mobility scooter liability cover. The report examined the impact recent law changes has had on insurance companies that offer this type of cover.

IT Skills – Worked on a range of advanced Excel tasks throughout my time as an intern with the most recent requiring me to create a summary of all the assumptions made on the experience analysis for a major life insurance client. This summary involved assigning these assumptions to the relevant product type that the client offers. The final product was both easy to navigate and update by any staff trying to refer to the document for future use.

Technical – Learned and implemented the 3 reserving methods used by the firm and got an insight into the key factors to consider when choosing the right reserving method to use for each client data.

Consultant (Q Consult Programme Supported by JP Morgan), 9/2018 to 12/2018

Queen Mary University of London

Teamwork – Worked with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of 4 other members, who specialized in different academic areas to mine, on a consultancy project that involved us working with a renowned UK charity named Deaf-Blind UK. The solid working relationships that I built with my teammates allowed us to work efficiently towards meeting all our project deadlines.

Communication Skills- Presented our key findings and recommendations in both a report and presentation format. My written communication skills were also enriched through interacting with our clients through email to keep them regularly updated on any progress we made throughout the project. Both the report and the presentation were a major success with the client, who decided to apply our recommendations across more of their branches than initially planned.

Analytical – Examined Deaf-Blind UK’s current social media coverage and assessed any potential new social media platforms they could venture into. This involved suggesting SEO (Search engine Optimisation) tools to the client, which would allow them to track where most of their traffic on their website is coming from.

Supermarket Assistant, Various Departments, 11/2017 to 3/2018

Waitrose – London, Brent Cross

Communications Skills - Worked in various customer-facing departments like checkouts and customer service, where I must interact and help customers of various age groups.

Teamwork - Worked with 12 colleagues to complete various tasks on the shop floor. The strong relationships that I built with my team throughout this tenure allowed me to work in tandem with them to produce a high quality of customer service to our consumers.

Time Management – Maintained a high standard of work at various departments despite working under intensive time pressures, which earned me an extended contract beyond my initial interim period.

Education

Queen Mary University London, BSC Mathematics with Actuarial Science (First Class) – 2017 to 2020

Numerical Skills – Accustomed to performing complex actuarial related calculations such as finding present values of different types of pensions schemes. Furthermore, from my Statistics for Insurance module, I’ve learnt all the 3 main loss reserving methods (Chain Ladder method, Inflation Adjusted Chain ladder method and Bornhuetter- Ferguson method), which are prominently used by UK insurance companies.

Commercial Awareness – My Actuarial Professional Development modules included weekly lectures from top professionals from the industry, which has provided me with an insight into the various range of products insurance firms offer.

Written Communication – Had to submit various written reports including one that I achieved a 90% grade on. This examined the various risks and benefits BREXIT could have on insurance firms and consultancies around the UK.
