Business Analysis and requirements gathering:

In all of my development activities:

I take responsibility for initial meeting with customers to listen carefully and discuss their needs.

I examine the system they work with and procedures they follow to help get a 50,000 ft view of their processes and needs.

I consider the future needs of the group and how the application being discussed flows from and into other existing apps and processes.

I attempt to meet semi -regularly with customers and get to know their other activities and applications. There is always the possibility that the new applications can pull from or flow into the next.

I propose initial examples and mockups to customers to insure we understand each other and we are on the right track in order to catch issues early on.

I maintain and exemplary relationship with customers and have been known to win over hesitant groups or those who are used to getting what they did not ask for in previous experiences.

I work hard to make the requirements document easy to understand so that newcomers can look at what I’ve documented and get a good understanding of the system and how the new application fills their needs.

Agile Development and Waterfall. Technical documentation.

Direct interaction with Customers for new and existing project needs discovery.

Projects

Claims Time Entry Tool – Application to allow for real time, clock time and claims count entry for the Claims Processing Dept. (Operations area) Served as a small Work Management tool

Client/Web E-News Tool - The Provider Web Content and Education Department was looking for a new tool for them to screen scrape the entire Medicare website and provide a list of content which they could then pick and choose links from to add into a new HTML or TXT formatted Enews article that would then get sent to all the regional providers. It relied heavily on VB, HTML, XML, DOM and VBScript. The VBScripting was the underlying code for the HTML DOM manipulation and output file writing. I worked closely with the customer which was very picky about detail. I built a long-lasting relationship with the whole department. I also maintained and enhanced the application with them anytime the Medicare Website was redesigned (DOM changed).

PCAce Alternate Transfer Tool - Client Side VB6 Application - The Electronic Document Interchange Department needed a new tool for Providers all over the region to send electronically formatted claims to our UNIX based Gateway for processing. I worked diligently with the customer and outside third-party developers to understand their processes and to create a tool that worked seamlessly with existing PCACE software. I developed a long-lasting relationship with the area as well.

I’ve maintained an excellent working relationship with all customers and have even won difficult customers confidence back for our IT department.

Mainframe Screen Scraping tools - Early in my employment with First Coast Service Options I was running mainframe batch jobs using Attachmate as the interface. I found that I was doing a lot of repetitive work and created some scripted macros to automate screen navigation and validation and then automated the ftp of summary info from Archives. I was recognized and promoted to Technical Analyst I.

MS Access development and mentorship – I was responsible for the maintenance and enhancements of our End of year bonus and merit increases as well as mentoring of one of our customers in coding all his various tasks in VBA for the applications he was working on

Web Intranet Applications - I’ve created, enhanced and maintained many 3-Tier Web Intranet applications using VB6, ASP, COM, VBScript and JavaScript, XML, XSLT and SQL Server DB as the back end as this was a large portion of what I worked on (7 years).

We used VB6 to code the business object for each web application (dll). This module was responsible for business rules and connecting to the DB connection module (also a VB dll) to run the specific stored procedures we needed to return data from. I wrote applications in ASP and I would be responsible for the creation of all tables, stored procedures, triggers, and views within the specific Database as well. I have been doing Web Intranet applications in VB6, ASP and SQL for about 6-7 years and recently started implementing AJAX into my apps as well.

Created different forms of reporting mechanisms utilizing MSOffice, especially Word allowing for dynamic customer letter creation populated from parameterized SQL queries. Used XML and XSLT to dynamically create customizable HTML reports as well. Most recently, I’ve used Crystal reports to provide for multiple sub reporting output.

As a Technical Analyst I learned PowerBuilder 6.5 and built innovative screen scraping I spent about 3 years creating and evolving the applications until I had the opportunity to start development in VB6 so I moved into VB6 as a Technical Analyst II

Automation of MSOffice is something I've done as well. Email validation scripts, VB6 dynamically writing autostart and autoclose scripts into office documents, etc.

I wrote a VB6 module for inclusion into a larger application to create word reports from data located in SQL server.

Also wrote a web based reporting mechanism that pulled data from SQL Server converted it to XML and then ran specific XSLT pages against it providing automated HTML formatted reports

I also very familiar with SQL Server and write SQL Server stored procedures and triggers as well as scripted tables, views etc.

I've scripted small tools for myself sometimes like a html page to browse through Windows NT Domains/groups/and users: VBScript

Created HTA apps that allow for web applications that look like windows applications allowing some unique abilities

GANYMEDE - Using Access and VBA and adhering to the company framework, I created a more object oriented method to process the numerous banks formats. The current Access applications within the company were all written top down procedural with little abstraction and lot of hardcoding. I created a formatting table to define the different requirements of each bank. The application would then pull those requirements into special processing objects and know exactly where in the resulting file to drop the formatted data, or where to retrieve and drop data in an Excel worksheet. When new banks files were needed, I would just need to create a new mapping in the table for that client. The rest was abstracted avoiding the need to repetitively write a whole new procedural process for each bank.

DOCENROLL- Worked with Clients, BA’s and DocuSign Developers to streamline a new process for banks to give their customers an electronic form mailed to their address in order for them to fill out and sign. My task was to take the resulting data file and convert it into a strict DE5 VAX format for batch processing. Reusing my custom file mapping and processing I was able to streamline the processing fast. While the source file format kept changing in scope I was able to make quick mapping changes to remedy and keep my end in sync.

PULSAR - There was a need to grab the exported results of all the assigned projects for our area in Excel and process all the results into a new reformatted spreadsheet and then create a pivot table for presentation to the upper management. The responsible party was manually finagling the data and building the same report every week taking many hours. I automated the whole process to run in nearly one minute.

COMPLAINT TRACKING - The legal department was having some problems with their complaint tracking application written in 2003. They were having to go into access design time and create a report and define query criteria every time they wanted to create a report. They were not avid Access users so this was kind of daunting for them.
