I am 21 years of age and a second-year student at Aros University in Pretoria, where I am studying for my Bed. Foundation Phase (Gr R-3). I have a great love for children and am passionate about teaching. I am bilingual

(Afrikaans and English). I am a very willing and eager person; when I don’t know something, I will gladly learn or do research on it. I strive to teach, love, and read as much as I can, and children are my happy place. I am a very patient person and do not mind repeating myself or finding new ways to explain things.

• I teach toddlers about the Bible, where the toddlers learn a new creation of God every Sunday. After the short lesson we make something sweet and play for the rest of the service.

• During some winter holidays I help at the church with a week long day-care, taking care of children from the age of 5-14.

Tutoring Gr 5

(June 2020 – September 2020)

• I tutored a grade 5 boy who needed help doing his schoolwork at home during the lockdown. I helped with all his subjects even though I had limited knowledge in some (such as math and social science) I did some extra research to be able to assist him in all the subjects. He is in West Rand school and has a few learning disabilities that challenged me to find new ways to teach him not only concepts he couldn't understand that was taught in previous grades but also new concepts for his current grade.

• I took care of 3 children, twin girls of 4-6 months old and their two-year-old brother until the family moved and I couldn’t go with them.

• I fed them, changed their diapers, played with them; all the basic things that needed to be done to take care of them.

Klarisa Maartens is ‘n saggeaarde, liefdevolle maar tog ook streng vroutjie wat my kinders met baie liefde en deernis al vir my opgepas het.

Ek het drie kinders, waarvan die oudste twee onderskeidelik 7 en 9 jaar oud is en dan ‘n Baba van 11 maande.

Klarisa het die besonderse vermoë om my oudste twee kreatief besig en gelukkig te hou en ek kon al baie op haar knoppie druk as ek moes werk en niemand gehad het wat na hul kon omsien nie. Met die baba het Klarisa baie gehelp veral tydens Covid en met die lockdown aangesien ek hom nog nie kleuterskool toe wou stuur nie.

Klarisa het gehelp met sy groot en fyn motoriese ontwikkeling, asook voedings- ons het hom hele paar oggende by haar gelos as ons moes werk.

Klarisa is betroubaar, hardwerkend, liefdevol maar kan tog dissipline handhaaf. Vir my is die belangrikste dat my kinders veilig en geliefd by haar voel.

Klarisa gaan ook ‘n uitstekende onderwyseres word, waarvoor sy tans besig is om te studeer. Klarisa staan nie terug vir enige uitdaging nie.

Ons is baie lief vir haar.

Before I was appointed as Youth Worker, Klarisa was already involved for 5 years. She is currently a helper at the toddlers - aged between 2 and 3 years.

Klarisa has a number of strengths to offer any institution, organization or employer. She is always ready to help where she can and is consistent in what she does. She is a very calm person and has a lot of patience with children.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I cannot speak highly enough of Klarisa. She was our au pair / nanny for 3 months after being recommended by friends whose children she also looked after. She assisted me daily in taking care of our 3 children - Logan (aged 2 years), as well as Kaelynn and Mikayla (4 month old twins when she started).

If I had to describe Klarisa in three words, I would choose: Caring, trustworthy, and resourceful. Every day is an adventure with the kids, and she handled it beautifully so that I could work from home. There were also days that I had to travel and attend meetings, and Klarisa looked after all 3 children by herself, dealing with bottles, meal times, playtime, naptimes, and even fevers. The children grew really fond of Klarisa and my son would miss playing with her over weekends when she wasn’t there. She treated them as if they were her own children. I knew the children were safe with her and I appreciated the extra set of hands tremendously! Klarisa even stayed over a few nights to look after the children when we went out. She sent sporadic messages to let me know that the children were doing okay and addressed my concerns regarding how much they have eaten/ slept.

We unfortunately had to leave Klarisa behind when we emigrated to New Zealand, but still keep in contact.

I would hire Klarisa again in an instant. Any family who engages her service is a fortunate family indeed. My family and I wish her well in all future endeavours. Sincerely,
