PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Marathon Petroleum 2015 - Present

HES Professional – Report to the Environmental Supervisor.

Program Lead: Programs include Contentious Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS), Stack Testing, Emissions Inventory, Toxic Release Reporting, Campbell’s Branch Landfill, RICE MACT, and Heater Boiler MACT.

Accomplishments: Eliminated the need for RICE MACT applicable engines in the refinery resulting in $144,000 annual savings. Designed and managed a TSS reduction project at the Campbell’s Branch Landfill; which, greatly reduces the risk of a TSS exceedance and progressed the fill towards closure.

Current Project: Redesigning the Campbell’s Branch closure plan. This redesigned plan will reduce the closure cost by $18MM. Developing a Data Acquisition and Handling System to provide live downtime and emissions data for CEMS and Flare Gas Recovery Systems. Implementing major changes required by the new Refinery Sector Rule regulation.

Arch Coal (Coal-Mac, Inc.), Holden, WV 2011 - 2015

Project Manager – Report to the engineering manager of a large scale surface mine. 2014 - 2015

Projects - Projects include designing and managing the construction of passive selenium bioreactors, process improvement projects, coal quality projects, sub-rash coal production project, production tracking app, and managing the Holden 22 and Holden 25 impoundments. Developed a stream mixing zone project to eliminate the need for passive bioreactors when appropriate.

Results - $225M savings for each bioreactor constructed, increased overall produced BTU value by 500 BTU/ton, developed a method to produce higher quality sub-rash coal which increased revenue up to $250M/month, created a production tracking app that can be used on company iPhones and iPads to generate an on shift real time production report.

Leadership – Successfully led project teams on technical projects and coordinated with production supervisors to ensure proper and successful field implementation.

Permitting – Worked with engineering team on project permitting actions. Responsible for obtaining permits from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, the Army Core of Engineers, Miners Safety and Health Administration and the West Virginia Forestry Department.

Capitol Budgeting – Developed capital budgets for all projects and wrote Authorization for Expenditure request for multi-million dollar equipment.

Environmental – Ensured environmental compliance in all aspects of the operation.

Production Supervisor- Reported to the mine manager 2013-2014

Management – Managed 65 operators and truck drivers.

Production - Responsible for producing, cleaning, preparing and hauling 3 million tons/year

Construction – Constructed roads, drill benches, ditches, and valley fills. Design Drawings were used for all construction projects.

Quality Control – Directly responsible for obtaining maximum quality of produced tons. Worked closely with engineering, sales and standards laboratories.

Safety – Helped implement a Behavior Based Safety program. Provided a safe working environment for the people working under me. Did pre-shift and on shift safety inspections of all working areas.

Projects: Team member for projects including moving the production staging areas to decrease first load time, best practices for loaders, 3% production increase, decrease tire wear project, decrease total wash coal tons and increase total direct ship coal tons, increase overall coal quality by 500 BTU.

Results – Production staging area was relocated to a better locating which increased production by 15 minuets/shift, loaders became 3%-5% more efficient, overall produced tons increase by 3%, tire life increase by 5% and overall quality increase by 500 BTUs/ton.

Production Engineer – Reported to the general manager, engineering manager and production manager.

2011-2013

Road Design – Designed roads and traffic patterns for a large scale surface mine using the AutoCAD platform.

Surveying- Experience with GPS and Total Stations surveying systems.

Hydrology – Designed and built complex ditch systems, retention and detentions ponds to comply with NPDES permit limits at 72 outfalls.

Earth Work – Site design, stability analysis and volumetric calculations.

Blasting – Designed hole patterns, loading, and delay timing for large blasting activates.

Structures – Site layout and design for blasting magazines and anfo storage bins.

Engineering – Designed all mine plans and coordinated all mining activity.

Communication: Led weekly meetings to review drawings and plans with production management and personnel.

Impoundment – Design long term and short term plans for operating two large scale Impoundments. Design work and maintenance on an 11 mile slurry pumping system. Designed a retention system to prevent and NPDES exceedance in the event of a worst case failure of the piping system.

Forecasting – Develop short term, 5 year and 25 year production forecast. Wrote quartile production reports for the board of directors.

Modeling – Developed AutoCAD and excel based models to predict future mining conditions and productions rates.

Process Improvement – Served on a project team for tire life and increased production projects.
