As a member of the healthcare team, my job as a Coding Specialist I was to support the importance of accurate, complete and consistent coding practices for the production of quality healthcare data. I am proficient in coding diagnostic outpatient and emergency room cases, applying the correct ICD-9/ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, and CPT codes and modifiers and strive for optimal reimbursement. I have the ability to float to different coding areas as needed within these defined case types. In this position I also support the thorough review of emergency department documentation to validate/adjust the ED E/M level and post charges for any billable procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to)

Assigns accurate ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM codes for all outpatient and clinic diagnoses and CPT codes for all ED procedures, while ensuring compliance with Official Coding Guidelines, Ethical Coding Standards and state, federal and JCAHO standards.

Responsible for the accurate assignment of the emergency department E/M level and the accurate posting of ED procedure charges and supplies as defined by internal criteria.

Assigns accurate CPT codes for outpatient procedures as required by current coding policies and procedures and/or regulations. Posts appropriate charges for these corresponding procedures done in the ECTC.

Reviews outpatient medical records for completeness of information to facilitate the processes of coding and abstracting. Contacts physician and obtains clarification for completion of documentation for accurate coding and APC assignment.

Reviews emergency department medical records including the patient care timeline for completeness of information to facilitate the processes of posting the appropriate charges for the EDTC.

Abstracts required data from all outpatient encounters and enters information into hospital's data base within established timeframes. Works all internal and external outpatient edit reports to aid in maintaining the hospital's substantial data base for use by medical staff, students and other hospital personnel.

Communicates with physicians and other clinicians concerning diagnoses and procedures when questions arise and/or when clarification is required, following hospital guidelines for the physician clarification process. Including appropriate and timely follow-up of queries as well as reviewing non-acknowledged Physician clarification for appropriateness and possible coding opportunity.

Participates in monthly coding team meetings and is knowledgeable in the hospital specific coding guidelines pertaining to outpatient coding and EDTC charge capture.

Attends educational seminars, reads pertinent health care literature and maintains credentials, in order to maintain current knowledge of standards and practice of medical record science.

Interacts with patients, guests, physicians and staff in a manner that reveals a courteous, professional manner. Demonstrates appropriate work habits and demeanor which contribute to the effective functioning of the department.

As a Data Entry Specialist my duty was to enroll all member and dependent information into the health insurance batch system as indicated on the enrollment forms given to us daily in batches. I was also tasked with enrolling specific member groups online with little to no supervision. Other daily duties as assigned as well as assist the manager with any requests.

As a Medical Billing Specialist daily tasks included printing, sorting, processing and mailing paper write-out claims unable to be filed electronically (approximately 300 daily), Processing electronic claims to be filed for my assigned workload (approximately 400-600 daily), assist other team members with questions on claim edits and/or training issues, assist other team members with their workload once my tasks were completed, attend and participate in weekly meetings to identify and resolve any billing issues such as denials and rejections of claims, verify registration and insurance issues and resolve as needed, assist any incoming patient calls as needed, comply with all HIPAA and company regulations, attend monthly departmental meetings, work special projects as assigned.

Customer Service Representative- Neurology Scheduling Froedtert and The Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI

As a scheduler for the Neurology team, daily duties included answering incoming patient calls and addressing each of the following in the scheduling process: Patient Registration, Verification of Insurance, requesting all pertinent records for the previous 2 years as well as primary care physician records, sending all documentation to Neurologist for review, once review completed contacting patient to schedule as appropriate. Maintaining high-levels of accuracy as well as a high standard of customer service. Follow protocol within the team regarding the intake of referrals and faxes, as well as daily mail. Close follow-up on all pending cases. Ability to communicate well within the team as well as with nurses and physicians from our clinic and outside clinics. ACTIVITIES

Passionate about making a difference. In my spare time I have volunteered for community fundraising events to benefit organizations such as March of Dimes, Light the Night walk to benefit Cancer research, Was the Campaign leader for my department for the Employee Campaign at Children’s WI for two years (partnered with the United Way of Wisconsin) to benefit Children’s Wisconsin programs and the families they serve, Captain of the Presbyterian Giving Campaign (PresGiving) to benefit Presbyterian Hospital programs and the United Way of New Mexico. I have also donated time to help establish a department newsletter in my position at Presbyterian as well as contributed to the newsletter for the scheduling department within Medical College of Wisconsin. I enjoy learning about other cultures. I also enjoy music and spending quality time with my husband and son, and extended family and friends.
