● Serves as Secretary and Executive Assistant to the Regional Director, Northeast Region. Works independently and collaborates closely with the Regional Director and his immediate sta . The degree of responsibility in performance of these duties far exceeds normal requirements of those for individuals in similarly designated positions in less complex settings.

● Analyzes pertinent program issues and their potential impact on activities and operations of the Regional Director and recommends alternative courses of action for resolution when required.

● Ensures e ective liaison between the Regional Director and other internal o cials, as well as high-level o cials of the Department of the Interior, the White House, the O ce of Management and Budget, other Federal agencies, the Congress, State and local governments, academia, private industry, and foreign countries. Interprets the thinking, statements, and policies of the Regional Director to these individuals whenever the occasion demands. Maintains contact with government agencies and civic organizations to collect and/or to provide information, such as regulations and background data. Analyzes, evaluates and organizes the ow of work to the Regional Director to ensure expeditious processing.

● Controls and monitors incoming and outgoing correspondence to and from the Regional Director’s O ce. Determines the need for follow-up actions or additional information and secures it. Determines which correspondence requires the personal attention of the Regional Director and which should be handled elsewhere. Assures conformance to established policy and standards, commitments made, and reviews for con icts with other statements of information previously released. As a correspondence expert within the Regional Director’s O ce, the incumbent provides guidance to authors, as well as other administrative sta, regarding o cial and uno cial correspondence policies and practices. Responds not only to questions concerning content, but also determines most expeditious method of distribution; i.e., formal hard copy, e-mail, etc.

● Maintains accountability for all ticketed correspondence, establishing process and ensuring coordination of o ce correspondence procedures and tracking systems for suspense items to monitor actions and meet o cial deadlines.

● Coordinates and assists the Regional Director in a variety of con dential matters. Conducts searches for and collects, assembles and summarizes various kinds of data and informational materials needed by the Regional Director in disposing of matters pending in the o ce. Keeps the Regional Director informed of developments considered to be of particular importance of those in which there is a special interest.

● Conducts personal investigations, as assigned by supervisor, in order to ascertain facts that can be obtained either by discussion with person concerned or from USGS les. This activity allows for considerable latitude as to the information to be requested and the possible interpretation of the information received. On the basis of the importance of these documents and their o cial standing, the incumbent determines those that are to be retained for future action, those that may be destroyed, and those assigned for o cial records.

● Ensures that all o cial social obligations are met. Arranges luncheons, issues invitation, and ensures that all details are covered and, when necessary, settles accounts with restaurants, clubs, or organizations by the use of government credit card, voucher, or procurement request.

● Provides clerical, administrative, and organization support for senior executive meetings in the Region. Assists in the development of agendas, manages logistics, and ensures timely and e cient development and distribution of meeting materials. Applying a working knowledge of subjects listed in agendas, the incumbent anticipates the need for and selects and assembles all necessary background materials and documents that may be require for such meetings.

● Receives and screens incoming calls and visits from international and domestic dignitaries, high ranking o cials, White House o cials, Department representatives, Members of Congress, the press and the general public.
