STUDENT RESEARCHER 10/2012 to 10/2014
North Carolina Central University, Dr. John Bang Durham, NC
The project focused on exposure, risk assessment, and environmental and human health impacts of nanomaterials such as silver and carbon nanotubes.
It is known that Silver (Ag) Nanoparticles is one of the most commonly used Nanomaterials for biomedical and industrial applications because of its unique optical, electrical, and thermal properties.
However, after a rigorous research, we were able to establish that Selenium can rescue HT22 cells after Nano Ag exposure, and selenium can also protect the neurons from the adverse effects of these nanoparticles.
The results of this study showed a possibility of using selenium as a preventive measure for neurodegenerative diseases.
Exposed cells to nanoparticles and polymers to see what effects it had on cells?.
Maintained the cells.
Prepared standard operating procedure (SOP) for the Real Time Electronic Sensing unit (RT-CES) and for freezing and splitting of cells.
