Master’s thesis
The study of the state of the art of IC for photovoltaic energy harvesting applications. Design and testing of a prototype: The thesis is about building a solar energy harvesting system prototype and testing its efficiency in simulated and real conditions. A prototype of a system was designed with the identified best suitable IC through a study of state of art. An experiment was carried out in indoor using a PV module simulator with mechanical and digital potentiometers separately. The experiment was then moved to outdoor to test under real conditions of irradiance and temperature by connecting to a real PV module, microcontroller, temperature, and irradiance sensors. Through experimental results, it was established that the board having suitable IC was able to control the voltage at the maximum power point of the PV module automatically using an Arduino Uno microcontroller.
