Identified and removed cold-end production bottleneck for world-scale paraxylene unit (PX2). Used HEXTRAN pinch technology exchanger network simulator to model system. Added several exchangers to cold-end network to reduce the ethylene-propane refrigeration compressor load. A 10% paraxylene production increase was made possible worth up to $3 million per year.

Member of $35 million Styrene Modernization Project team and leader of engineering start-up team.

Designed successful polyethylbenzene transalkylator reactor and ethylbenzene-superheated steam high velocity gas mixer for inlet of styrene reactor train. Improved mixing resulted in steam savings and yield improvements worth over $300,000 per year.

Designed new thermosiphon reboiler system for benzene dehydrator tower following a fire incident. Eliminated hazardous benzene filters and hot forced circulation loop. New reboiler exceeded capacity target with stable operation.

Performed start-up and testing of new PSA hydrogen purification plant to supply refinery with high purity hydrogen from styrene unit.
