PROJECTS DESIGNED AND EXECUTED BY ME AT RAS AL KHAIMAH GAS COMMISSION INHOUSE

IMPROVING AVAILABILITY AND RELIABILITY

During my 12 years of service as Head of the Instrumentation & Electrical Department, some of the main projects designed and implemented by me are as follows;

1. Emergency Power System

The emergency generator and MCC consisting of Klockner Moeller Motor Operated Circuit breakers controlled by Allen Bradley PLC2, retrofit designed and implemented successfully.

2. Reboiler Heater H102 & Hot Oil Heater HT1401

Temperature control and shutdown system was upgraded from pneumatic to digital Honeywell UDC 3000.

The Burner Management system was upgraded to safer efficient logic. UV detectors, upgraded to Honeywell units improving the efficiency, reliability and reducing warehouse inventory.

3. Honeywell DialTrol Temperature switches

These units operating on 110VAC were modified in-house to operate on 24 VDC UPS.

Hence unaffected by plant power dips, rendering 3 Inverters obsolete.

4. SOLAR Gas Turbines Ignition Logic

A. The ignition detection logic was transferred from T7 (Exhaust temperature) sensing to T5 (Wheel space) sensing with redundant contacts.

Thus, improving Ignition system efficiency, reliability and safety.

B. Surge Shutdown system, frequent shutdowns analyzed, suggested solution to SOLAR TURBINES and implemented. Preventing recurrence and production loss.

5. LPG Tanker Loading Flow Computer

This Daniel flow computer, operating on 220VAC, computed and controlled the LPG loading operation which was frequently disrupted by power failures.

The unit was modified to 24VDC UPS, ensuring uninterrupted operation.

6. Elevated Flare System

Frequent rupture pin actuation during Preventive Maintenance; root cause was analyzed to pipe line internal explosion, advised to Operations and prevented recurrence by modified operational procedures.

7. Gas Metering Stations at Consumer skids

Initiated the idea to monitor remote gas metering Daniel Gas Flow Computers by leased line communications to Main Control Room. Implemented and reduced operational man-hours and obtained live field data.

8. SCADA

Initiated the idea to implement the LPG Sweetener controls the SCADA, thereby improving operations and safety.

Conducted Instrumentation training for Operation & Maintenance personnel.
