Employment History

Melinda was identified and selected as a talented young professional to be part of SAA’s first Graduate Programme. She was recruited to learn and grow within the Global Supply Management (Procurement) Department whilst also having the opportunity to rotate for a six-month period within different critical and operational airline departments. Her main responsibilities, as a Graduate within the Procurement Department, were to manage the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process, a process which is followed to procure all items with a value of up to R 500 000 (including VAT). The Graduate Programme was followed by a two-year Development Programme and Melinda was subsequently appointed as a Junior Sourcing Specialist within the Procurement Department, responsible for the sourcing of items above R 500 000, managing Request for Information (RFI), Request for Proposal

(RFP) and Request for Bids (RFB) processes. On successful completion of her two-year Development Programme in July 2016, she was promoted to a Sourcing Specialist. Melinda has worked with several specialist teams and different commodities including Aircraft Acquisition, Corporate Services, Facilities Management, Hospitality, Inflight Services, Information Technology and Professional Services.

• Aircraft Acquisition: The sourcing of aircraft for the SAA Cargo Division

• Corporate Services: The sourcing of uniform items and shoes for Flight Deck Crew, Cabin Crew and Ground Staff

• Part of the GSM team responsible for reducing/saving costs by R2.8 billion over a three-year period

(FY:2018/19, FY:2019/20 and FY:2020/21) – by the time SAA was placed under business rescue

(December 2019), R1.5 billion savings were already achieved by the team. Major projects, in support of SAA’s savings initiatives, for which Melinda was responsible for included: o Revenue generating RFP’s for the optimisation of SAA owned properties in Johannesburg, Durban and other regions (Bloemfontein, Cape Town, East London, George, Kimberley and Port Elizabeth)

– the property portfolio was valued just below R2.4 billion o Long term contract negotiations with key IT suppliers in order to realize a 30% actual saving over the respective extension periods

• Manage a minimum of R100m of direct and indirect procurement spend
