1 Texas Instruments TMS320F2812, TMS320F2808, TMS320F28335 2018 – April 2019 (BAE Systems, Los Angeles Ca)

Technical Lead Power Electronics System

Accepted a position with BAE Systems to lead the power electronics effort for both airborne and ground systems. Was subsequently informed that all of the work was to be done in Endicott N.Y. Management in Los Angeles materially misrepresented the job description and responsibilities. Tendered my resignation April 29 2019. No interest in relocating to N.Y

2013 – 2018 (Raytheon, El Segundo Ca)

Technical Lead Next Generation Jammer (NGJ) Power System. The NGJ is comprised of a 100KVA Ram Air Turbine that powers a set of 100KVA payloads. Responsibilities included oversight of the power system architecture as well as the performance of the power distribution system. Specific assignments included evaluating the power system stability and efficiency as well as defining the power flow management routines. Principal areas of focus are the control aspects of the three phase active rectifiers that convert wild frequency AC into a well defined DC distribution bus (Mil-Std 704). Dynamic response to rapid application of large step loads is a particular area of focus.

2010 – 2013 (Monogram Systems, Carson Ca)

Principal Power Electronics Engineer.

Directing a design team whose charter is to develop a line of aerospace quality motor drives. Motor drives consist of single/dual interleaved active rectifier front ends coupled with either a single/dual interleaved inverter motor drives. Power ranges from 1KVA to 8 KVA. Responsibilities include;

• Power quality trade studies and architecture selection.

• Control system analysis and design.

• Electronics architecture and design.

• Power device analysis and selection.

• Software architecture analysis and design.

• Testing and performance verification.

2008 – 2009 (Servo Dynamics, Chatsworth, Ca)

Chief Engineer

• Leading a design effort to totally re-design and upgrade the Servo Dynamics product line of industrial motor drives. Developed a strategy and architecture that consists of a single DSP based control board that can be inserted into any number of power stages of varying power levels for both brushless and brush type motor drives. Developing a single embedded software suite that can recognize the underlying power topology and can automatically configure the vector based control scheme. Company folded. 2006 – 2007 (Aerotek / Moog)Contract Work

• Assisted Moog in their development efforts as related to the 787 Electronic Motor Control Unit (EMCU). Work consisted of reviewing the Moog architecture and Moog’s embedded software for the three phase permanent magnet motor controls. The motor drive needed to function alternatively as a constant speed loop or a servo position loop. Helped resolve several mode transition issues.

• Assisted in coordinating the requirements partitioning between Curtiss/Wright and Moog on the Future Combat Servo Motor Controller (FCV SMC). Also performed a design review on the motor drive system for Curtiss/Wright’s Ammunition Handling System

(AHS).

• Filled a short term contract with Curtiss/Wright. Assisted in coordinating the requirements partitioning between Curtiss/Wright and Moog on the Future Combat Servo Motor Controller (FCV SMC). Also performed a design review on the motor drive system for Curtiss/Wright’s Ammunition Handling System (AHS). 2005 Glentek El Segundo Ca.

Chief Engineer.

• Accepted a position with Glentek to develop their "Next Generation" of AC induction motor drives. Responsibilities entailed evaluating the hardware architecture and software architecture to facilitate a new vector control design using the latest DSP from Texas Instruments (TMS320F2808). After doing the preliminary trade studies the company ownership concluded that the required resources were not available to proceed. 2003 - 2005 Honeywell Air Frame Systems Torrance Ca. Principal Electrical Systems Engineer.

• Accepted a position with Honeywell to provide technical leadership in the Electro Mechanical Power Systems (EMPS) systems engineering group. Position responsibilities included defining the system performance, software architecture and hardware architecture for both position and velocity motor controllers. (Honeywell anticipated winning significant business for three phase inverter motor drives on the Boeing 7E7 aircraft. The business was awarded to Sundstrand). 2002-2003Optimal Energy Systems, Torrance Ca. Principal Electrical Systems Engineer.

• This position reports directly to the CEO. Responsibilities include leading the electrical system requirements analysis and design for flywheel energy storage high speed motor drive systems. Position provides supervision and technical leadership for the electrical development laboratories as well as providing significant guidance to the power electronics packaging team.

2001 Capstone Turbine Corporation Chatsworth, Ca

Systems Engineer

• Performed requirements analysis and decomposition for a software based power server to govern multiple microturbines (up to 100 units connected in parallel). The power server implemented a finite state machine representation of each microturbine and provided the state transition logic to properly sequence each machine into and out of the system. 1999–2001 Honeywell Power Systems Torrance, Ca

Systems Engineer

• Performed requirements analysis and decomposition for a software based microturbine power control system. Work centered on requirements specification for two separate control schemes, one design for scalar control system and one design for vector control system. Principal task was to co-ordinate the design such that the control system could transition between the two control modes in a transient free manner. Work required knowledge of vector control systems designed in rotating reference frames along with inverter switching schemes (SVM / GDPWM / Six step). One patent filed. 1997–199 Litton Guidance and Control Systems, Santa Barbara, Ca Principal Engineer

• Worked ACS architecture design trades / proposal preparation for the emerging small satellite market. Projects included evaluating integrated and distributed architectures against power, reliability, weight unit costs and integration costs for high volume production.
