Assistant Professor with Dubai Medical College.

Erada Centre was established in Dubai in 2016, to offer treatment and rehabilitation services for people who suffer from Alcohol and substance use disorders.

My role as a consultant psychiatrist is to provide assessment and management for all various types of addiction diseases. I am also appointed as assistant professor with Dubai medical college, where I teach at the master degree of addiction which is been run jointly by Erdada centre and Dubai Medical college for the last two years.

I worked at Gwent Specialist Substance Misuse Service (GSSMS), for one year. It is a service working to address the complex needs of the client group in Gwent area. During this job, I had the opportunity to assess clients with various substance misuse problems such as Alcohol, Opiates, stimulants, and prescribing painkillers medication. I also had the opportunity to monitor and prescribe substitute medication such as Methadone and Buprenorphine.

SPECIAL CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

1-EMDR (Eye movement desensitization and

reprocessing)

I always was interested in EMDR, as a new therapy for the treatment of trauma related disorders and PTSD. I finished a three-part training in EMDR with EMDR workshops, and during my current job, I sometimes use it for my patients in the outpatient clinic.

2-ADHD:

As my special interest is Adult ADHD, I completed the following activities to develop my experience and knowledge in this area: 1-I attended ADHD clinic with Tonteg child & family centre. 2-I completed THE UKAAN (UK Adult ADHD Network) training courses on ADHD diagnosis & treatment.

3-I assessed and treated many children with ADHD, at CAMHS where I used to attend the ADHD clinic as part of my special interest 4-During my current job, I regularly assess and treat patients with Adult ADHD in both primary and secondary mental health services. ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE

Teaching Experience:

Currently I am appointed as assistant professor with Dubai Medical College, where I teach the postgraduate students in the Master degree course of addiction.

I am also participate actively in the supervision and teaching of the junior doctors and I also supervise and teach the medical students who attach to the unit.

I also participate actively in the annual teaching program for psychiatric trainees and new specialists in Sudan. This is usually run during December

& January months each year and a number of consultants Sudanese psychiatrists who work here in UK, participate in this program. Research & Audit Experience:

1-August 2015: I completed a research paper about Sudanese public opinion survey about community psychiatry. The aim of the study is to assess the Sudanese public opinion about community psychiatry. 2-June 2015: I completed an Audit about services users’ experience of the ward round. The objective is to seek the feedback of a sample of service users experience regarding ward round.

3-May 2014: During my post in Substance misuse, I completed an Audit in dual diagnosis, where I collected the audit data from 27 case notes and also a questionnaire to 18 CMHT members.

4-March 2013: During my post at CWM taf health board, I completed an audit about: short term management of Violence in an inpatient psychiatric unit The Audit was published as poster presentation during Audit workshop on the 10th of June 2013, at Swansea.

I also played a major role in registering the trust with the National Audit of Schizophrenia (NAS), and collecting the data. I continue to do so, even after my post finished and I submitted all collected data into NAS website. 5- In July 2008, I did an audit on Care Programme Approach (CPA). 6-As part of my DPM course, I did a research on the cognitive function in schizophrenia. I compared the attention abilities between two group patients, the first group is taking Clozapine and the second group is taking Depot. Injection.

Publications:

1-In May 2014, I published an article about mental health act in Sudan, with two of my colleagues. The article was published in the international psychiatry journal (Royal College of Psychiatrists), volume 11 numbers 2 May 2014. There was a workshop held in Khartoum, 2012, where a draft for mental health act was written and submitted to the Sudanese parliament for approval. (Please see the attached article)

2- I also published an article about mental health and civil conflict in Sudan, with two other authors). The article was published in the International psychiatry journal Volume 10 Number 3 August 2013, published by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

4-I used to write a regular column in a weekly medical newspaper called Zawaya. The name of the column is psychiatric issue, and the newspaper publishes in Sudan in Arabic language.
