DeckhandSeaman/Shipkeeper(60hrs weekly) Jan 2011 – Feb 2014 Maintain government-issued certifications, as required. Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, or pans, using dishwashers or by hand. Place clean dishes, utensils, or cooking equipment in storage areas. Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition. Stock supplies, such as food or utensils, in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, or salad bars. Sweep or scrub floors.

Clean garbage cans with water or steam.

Sort and remove trash, placing it in designated pickup areas. Clean or prepare various foods for cooking or serving. Set up banquet tables.

Transfer supplies or equipment between storage and work areas, by hand or using hand trucks. Receive and store supplies.

Prepare and package individual place settings.

Load or unload trucks that deliver or pick up food or supplies. Lower and man lifeboats when emergencies occur.

Handle lines to moor vessels to wharfs, to tie up vessels to other vessels, or to rig towing lines. Stand watch in ships' bows or bridge wings to look for obstructions in a ship's path or to locate navigational aids, such as buoys or lighthouses.

Stand gangway watches to prevent unauthorized persons from boarding ships while in port. Overhaul lifeboats or lifeboat gear and lower or raise lifeboats with winches or falls. Operate, maintain, or repair ship equipment, such as winches, cranes, derricks, or weapons system. Load or unload materials from vessels.

Lubricate machinery, equipment, or engine parts such as gears, shafts, or bearings. Break out, rig, and stow cargo-handling gear, stationary rigging, or running gear. Splice and repair ropes, wire cables, or cordage, using marlinespikes, wire cutters, twine, and hand tools. Paint or varnish decks, superstructures, lifeboats, or sides of ships. Sweep, mop, and wash down decks to remove oil, dirt, and debris, using brooms, mops, brushes, and hoses. Chip and clean rust spots on decks, superstructures, or sides of ships, using wire brushes and hand or air chipping machines.

Clean and polish wood trim, brass, or other metal parts. Service, clean, or supply restrooms.

Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications. Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.

Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems. Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties. Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees. Steam clean or shampoo carpets.

Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.

Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.

Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks. Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware or metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, or power cleaning equipment.
