Action:

One significant issue I uncovered was that the procedure of documenting the oil consumption of each aircraft engine was incorrect from the current method that I was taught. Three years prior to my enlistment, the squadron was stationed in Japan. I checked the Individual maintenance log for that aircraft prior to the re assignment to Naval air station San Diego, they were documented differently. I then crossed reference it with the naval aviation Maintenance publication then informed quality assurance office, and it coincided with the procedural documentation with the log during the detachment in Japan.

I notified my maintenance chief before I brought this matter to maintenance control. The matter was revised by the maintenance officer and concluded there was a change in procedure during the change of duty stations,

This discovery resulted in preventing the waist of thousands of man hours and a potential risk of premature life of an engine costing in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
