Seeking a position in a team-based environment, where I can utilize my experience in the laboratory and hospital setting, and customer service skills.

Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA

Laboratory Assistant:

Receive specimens from in-house locations and prepare for testing

oIncludes separating plasma and serum from blood cells, pour off urine specimens in appropriate preservative containers and separate fluid specimens for various departments

Receive specimens from outpatient locations, separate and take to appropriate testing areas

Restock supplies at the work station

Communicate with the team and pass along appropriate information to incoming shift

Upon end of shift, review logs for missing and pending tests, locate specimens and take to the technologist in testing area

Ensure all tests requested are properly received and taken to the testing department

Work directly with other lab assistants, help them finish their projects if they are nearing the end of their shift

Answer phones from inpatient locations and assist nurses and doctors with pending tests or add-on test requests

Unload courier shipments from outpatient locations, separate types of specimen and deliver to the appropriate receiving department

Use Sunquest and Epic hospital software programs for day-to-day tasks

Lab Assistant:

Perform various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate fashion to assist the laboratory professional staff and to facilitate production.

Assist with monitoring the pending and overdue lists, which includes, searching, locating, following up and filing appropriate documentation (e.g. Test Not Performed (TNP), Missing Specimen (MSP), Quality not Sufficient (QNS), and tracking notes).

Responds promptly to needs/concerns of patients, visitors, and staff - and follows through.

Handle specimen/blood components safely. Identify suitability and acceptability, initiating recollection process as appropriate.

Recognize discrepancy on patient orders/blood invoices. Resolve and report problems and solutions as appropriate. Work with Client Services to verify physician’s orders when the test requests are unclear.

Perform and maintain computer logs, quality control, disinfection procedures, and departmental assigned duties.

Manage phone inquiries and provides information regarding specimen collection, transport, and patient results as appropriate.

Navigate and accesses multiple computer applications (Patcom, TdSnergy, TD Webb, Allscripts, Imed, Email, Rasi, Halfpenny, Beacon, Touchworks).

Assist in the training and orientation of new employees.

Participate in educational activities to maintain current knowledge in the field.
