Priestley Residential Care Home, Birstall Oct 2015 – Jan 2016

My time spent at this work setting benefitted me in expanding my skills further, working alongside other professionals in a team or on my own initiative, adapting to service users’ needs constantly putting the patient first (person centred care). Getting to know health and lifestyle choices has been seen as vital as every need of a service user is different, Being patient to solve issues as well as listening to them empowering them to speak for their rights and freedom of choice.

Batley Hall Residential Care Home, Batley Sept-Dec 2014

My time spent here was worthwhile as it allowed me to expand my skills within working with a range of different service user needs, within this setting I was dealing with service users with problems with hearing, behavioural problems, dementia, speech impairment and visual impairment. Patient was required as well as remaining calm in situations as well as working together as a team helped me develop more as an individual.

Claremont House Care Home, Heckmondwike April-July 2014

This placement enabled me to develop my knowledge and understanding of how to work with service users with dementia, a very challenging experience as patience is required when dealing with services. This placement allowed me to adapt rapidly with service users with dementia and last stage Alzheimer’s, using effective communication skills to help and support them with daily living tasks that they cannot remember to do such as washing their face or if they have been to the bathroom.

Gained valuable experience of developing my listening skills and communication skills. Spending time counselling young teenagers, supporting them with advice and guidance that they could approach to help them solve their issues and problems. Seeing students one to one to discuss anything that was likely to be a barrier for their studies or if they had any other problems that they could communicate to me about where they felt it was safe. Adapting myself to all kinds of different problems to be solved as well as communicating with different type of students with different needs such as students with disabilities and finding ways to help them overcome their barriers.

I am currently working with this employer as a non contracted zero hour bank worker. My job role consists of working closely with patients that are from a broad spectrum of mental health ilnesses. Working with patients from a forensic background to patients that have a history of violence and aggression,present a risk of harm to themselves or others around them,patients that have learning disabilties that would also include patients with Autism. l am also currently working alongside other multidiscplinary teams to help patients that are suffering from drug and alcohol misuse.
