Summary:

With a decade of Engineering experience and another decade working as a Standards Engineer / Technical Writer, I have the experience to both understand engineering issues and finding solutions while communicating and documenting the design analysis and writing design specifications and standards.

As a member of the Ride Engineering Team, I have been responsible for the developing, updating, and revising Design and Engineering Standards and Specifications. This required interfacing with Project Teams, Design Assurance, Vendors, Legal Team members and Senior Management to incorporate new design requirements, technologies, practices, and legislative requirements.

As a Project Engineer, I gained the experience to lead teams in the execution of projects, assign and reviewing team members work, working with Vendors, Designers, Quality Engineers, and Inspectors to complete projects and open attractions to Guests.

Principal Standards Engineer / Project Engineer

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop content and write Design and Engineering Standards and Practices.

Revise and update standards to align with current design trends anthropometric data, safety standards, incorporate new technologies and practices, and new legislative requirements.

Interface with Senior Management to obtain approval of new or revised design requirements with impacts across segments.

Work with Review Teams to identify areas in our Standards and Practices that require updating to align with new Safety Practices.

Curate the Engineering Library, and create tools to allow Imagineers to access library texts and standards.

Provide research support to identify applicable standards and identify critical requirements.

Work with project teams to develop content and to write project Design Specifications.

Provide support to Document Control updating AutoCAD© and Solidworks© drawings.

As a Project Engineer:

Interface with various disciplines, cast members, and Vendors to complete project work and open attractions.

Write Safety Plans, Test Plans, Scopes of Work and sign off on Vendor work.

Approve completed test plans.

Prepare final documents for Inspectors and Regulators.

Submit final document package (including drawings, certifications, and test reports) to the Park for future use in maintaining the attraction.

Use Solidworks© and AutoCAD© to create and update drawings and release them into the Electronic Data Management System (EDMS).

Projects:

Disney’s California Adventure (DCA) Red Car Modifications: Project Engineer – Led the effort to modify the track and inductive charging system to support the operational limits of the Red Car. Coordinated Vendors work efforts and providing overall support to both the Park and the larger project teams expanding DCA.

Ironman Experience Initial Development: Mechanical Engineer – Provided Engineering support for preliminary design efforts and evaluation for the 6 degree of freedom motion based. Evaluation of available systems and technologies.

Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract)

Primary Responsibilities:

Complete detailed stress and fatigue analysis including FEA analysis and hand calculations, and writing development reports.

594 series Pipette: Using Solidworks©, generated new models of parts. Created part and assembly drawings. Developed assembly tooling and work holding fixtures. Prepared models for EDM of molds and tooling. Conducted product testing and complied data. Analyzed requirements to design/select springs for Pipette. Conducted life testing, Q.A. Calibration, and generated printing plates and work holding tooling for pad printing.

Bubbler Comb: Using Solidworks©, generated models of comb. Adjusted design to improve mold ability. Generated models for EDM machining. Created fabrication and customer drawings of part.

FCM assembly machine: Designed and constructed a PLC controlled machine to assemble and crimp captive washer onto a machine screw made from both alloy and stainless steel. Incorporated various inductive proximity sensors and optical sensors to provided positive feedback to the controller. Used Solidworks© to develop models of tooling and to verify fit and placement of components. Developed the operating program and optimized the software to maximize both output quantity and quality.

Gel Filter Assembly Machine: Designed a PLC controlled machine that uses optical sensors to detect the presence of nylon components. Used Solidworks© to develop models of machine elements to optimize ergonomics and fit of shaped tooling.

Insemination Tube assembly machine: Used simple timing circuits to control the assembly process, and designed special tooling and work holding fixtures. Provided controls for manual operation and intervention by operator.

Vertrod Machine Update: Upgraded a specialty Vertrod machine to use a PLC to control the operation of impulse heating/welding process. Provided a feeder to use material rolls rather than custom cut blanks. Interfaced the two different machines to operate together, and optimized both machines by modifying various elements to improve product quality and production rate.

Material Dryer Specification: Developed a specification of requirements and interfaced with suppliers to provide a material dryer for injection molding dept. Installed and configured unit for drying of moisture sensitive injection molding material.

Mold and tooling design: Used Solidworks© software to develop parts and design molds.

CNC Machine Specification: Recommended CNC machine replacement for existing automatic machine. Determined required functions and capacities and compared to current models in order to make recommendation

Strap and Buckle Preload and Tensile testing machine: Designed a machine to preload strap and buckle assemblies per customer specification and tensile load test assemblies.

Aircraft knob inspection fixture: Designed an inspection fixture to inspect coating quality on illuminated aircraft knobs.

Pipette assembly fixtures: Used Solidworks© software to develop parts and design tools for technicians to assembly ARS 594 series Pipettes.

Completed Projects:

C17 Longeron Beam Inspection Fixture, Douglas Aircraft Co.: Designed an inspection fixture for checking in process longeron beams. Utilized Douglas Tooling Design Standards for fixture design. Oversaw fabrication of components and final assembly and inspection of test fixtures.

Transfer system for spent Nuclear Fuel cells at Idaho Falls National, Environmental and Engineering Laboratory: Designed machine to fit existing facilities and planned hot cell modifications. Provided detailed design analysis to determine stress and fatigue life and to show that design met all of the required design criteria. Designed machine to operate in high radiation environment, under water with a 20-year service life. Specified components and materials to meet system needs and to comply with D.O.E. standards. Incorporated elements needed to make the system remotely serviceable. All Hydraulics systems had to comply with D.O.E. Standards and use water for operational fluid. Oversaw final assembly and inspection of system prior to customer factory acceptance testing. Provided completed drawing package of as-built equipment.

Jib Hoist system for Space Shuttle Bay, USA facilities: Supervised project to fabricate and assemble Jib Hoist system. Scheduled delivery of materials, and scheduled shop time for machining of components. Interfaced with outside processors to meet production requirements. Programmed CNC lathes. Provided updated drawing package to USA upon completion of project.
