Experience Summary:
My first position as a Safety Officer was in 2006 at MONDI Mere-bank in Kwa-Zulu Natal – since then I have been a Safety Officer exposed to the Health, Safety and Environmental Field for 15 years. I have worked in Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, Pretoria, North West, and Kwa-Zulu Natal. I have been in different environments including Building Projects, Roads – civil Engineering, Smelter Furnace Rebuilds – Mechanical Engineering, Open Cast Mining, Storage Tanks, Water and Reticulation Projects, Installation of Electrical cables for Transformers. I have also been exposed to International Auditors DEKRA ISO 45001:2018, 9001:2015, 14001:2015 Department of Labour Audits, Client and Contractor Audits. I managed a single site with approximately 45 Contractors on a daily basis without any injuries for 16-month Project, during my exposure in the construction industry I Approved Contractor Health & Safety plans, Fall Protection plans, Environmental Plans, Risk Assessments, Emergency Plans, Fatigue Management plans for contractors. In my experience I learnt communication, planning, leadership and the approach to an individual are key elements towards creating a safe working environment. My philosophy is – DON’T DO SAFETY because YOU HAVE TOO, DO IT because YOU WANT TO – on each project I educate the contractors or staff on having a positive behaviour towards a GOAL we are all trying to achieve.
