Working as a lead teacher in the before school Y-care program has allowed me to mentor children and build into them. I am responsible for the care of about 20 elementary-aged children, before school starts. I provide the children with games, coloring activities, books to read, etc. My role is to keep the children safe and to encourage them and get them ready to start their school day. During the summer, I have the opportunity to continue to my position during the YMCA Kids Summer Camp.

Redemption House Ministries is a transitional living home for women recovering from addiction, that serves as an alternative to incarceration. As direct care staff, I am responsible for overseeing the house while on my shift. We are responsible to the courts for ensuring our residents are accounted for at all times, so I check verification and do house checks often. As a ministry, we implement a Christ-centered approach in our recovery program. Therefore, I transport then ladies to church on Sundays, as well as engage in weekly programming, Bible studies, and devotional times. Distributing medication and keeping proper logs of medication is another important task of mine. Overall, I am responsible for maintaining the safety of everyone in the house at all times on my shift.

Charis house serves as a restorative program for women and children experiencing homelessness. I interned at this agency as my junior internship through Huntington University. During my experience at this agency I completed several administrative responsibilities. I also had the opportunity to sit in on various groups/classes that the ladies attend in their restorative process. Additionally, I ensured that all residents in the home were abiding by the rules and regulations at all times. I had the opportunity to observe some case management as well.

Choices and Changes is a therapeutic counseling agency for all ages, that specializes in play therapy. I interned at this facility as my senior practicum for my social work program through Huntington University. However, my primary role was completing case management tasks such as progress notes, connecting clients with resources, attending IEP meetings, filing paperwork for various government assistance programs, etc.
