EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD ENHANCE PATIENT SKILLS:
Much of my work as an Occupational Therapist has been with the Geriatric population. It also has branched out however to all age ranges (down to 6 weeks old) through either Acute Hospital setting, coverage in ARU Center, Outpatient services or through Home Care.
I have worked with a few patients that were on the psychiatric ward through Soldiers & Sailors Hospital, as well as several Veteran’s through Home Care. Many of my patients throughout the different settings worked in have had a variety of diagnoses that have included psychiatric illnesses and emotional difficulties. I believe I have been able to remain non-judgmental and able to deal with my patients without difficulty. I do feel I have a personality that is open to listening and empathetic, and my patients have responded to it.
As stated above I have worked in multiple settings. I worked in 2 Hospital settings that provided Outpatient services, as well as Long Term Care, totaling 13 years. Home Care experience covered the better part of 7 years. There were a lot of people seen with heart/lung issues, Orthopedic needs, as well as numerous physically debilitating illnesses/diseases and muscular disorders. All age ranges are included in these settings. OT, PT and SLP all worked closely in these settings to coordinate care and make sure all services required were met for our patients, making referrals as indicated.
Through Home Care I have spent a lot of time evaluating home environments. Being very conscientious about safety and financial concerns of all involved.
