Clinical skills

• Assists the consultants in providing required patient care and management in the field of Radiation Oncology, in accordance with standards of medical care.

• Offering consultations for referred patients who are scheduled to receive radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer.

• Studies and performs assessment, examination and the compilation of a case history and assists in the diagnosis and management of patients.

• Registers detailed medical history, conducts a thorough physical examination and creates a plan for patients’ management and follows-up for discussion with the Consultant. Subsequently, records the consultant’s orders, progress notes and other required documents for outpatients.

• Provides on-call coverage for radiation oncology on a rotational basis during evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.

• Follows up on investigation results for outpatients and modifies treatment accordingly.

• Determining the exact field or area to be treated by radiation, as well as prescribing the number of fractions of radiation needed.

• Delineation of target volumes using Eclipse and Ray station software’s.

• Simulating and supervising total body irradiation for stem cell transplantation.

• Answering questions about the risks and benefits of radiation therapy, as well as managing any side effects from radiation may be experienced.

• Working closely with the members of the interdisciplinary team to monitor progress during patients’ treatment. Academic skills

• Keeps abreast of all the latest techniques and developments in radiation oncology and implements them on a selective basis to improve technical standards.
