New Life Wellness Center 1/2021 – 5/2021

Chief Clinical Administrator

Recruited to the organization to lead the start-up and ongoing leadership of a Behavioral Health Treatment Center. Agency goal is to also open residential treatment center as well as other treatment programs in 3 other cities in state of AZ under my leadership. The Chief Clinical Administrator serves on the Governing Board as part of the leadership team and devises strategies and plans for the clinical department according to company standards for excellent service and growth. Plans and oversees all patient care or administrative operations and programs. Provides clinical growth and supervision for department staff and is responsible for maintaining budget and resourcing.

QUAIL RUN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, Phoenix, AZ 2016 – 1/2021

Director of Behavioral Health Integration Services/Outpatient Director

Recruited to the organization to lead the start-up and ongoing leadership of the Behavioral Health Integration Service line while simultaneously directing Outpatient services for this 102-bed facility. Hold direct accountability for overseeing all operational functions, including compliance management, budget administration, records management, process improvement, contract management and stakeholder relations. Build, develop and lead a staff of 12 direct reports, providing ongoing mentoring and leadership to ensure optimal performance.

Designed, implemented and managed a psychiatric triage program within a medical center emergency department at Honorhealth. The Psychiatric Triage evaluates and assesses patients who have presented at the emergency department after a suicide attempt, with suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation and/or psychosis. The Psychiatric Triage program staff provides assessment and then referral/disposition to inpatient psychiatric hospitals, outpatient programs and petition patients if required. Assisted in development of electronic medical record playground scenarios for psychiatric patients as part of Honorhealth employee orientation. Trained psychiatric staff for the program and directed the transition of the staff into the program to ensure integration between the psychiatric staff and the emergency department staff including physicians.

Designed and implemented a behavioral support system consisting of mobile assessment for HonorHealth emergency rooms, psychiatric support for patients on medical floors, psychiatric assessment and support for primary health clinics and additional behavioral health services.

Presented program to shareholders, including Honor Health leadership and physician leadership teams, demonstrating benefits of mobile assessment services to gain buy-in.

Built partnership with Honor Health system, integrating the new service line into 5 hospitals/facilities; directed all integration aspects, including clinical oversight, clinician training and quality service monitoring.

Successfully supported the completion of 180+ assessments in first 6-months, 80% higher than projected volume. Achieved 54% conversion for direct admissions into the hospital.

Established and continue to manage administrative procedures to ensure attainment of corporate goals.

Created and implemented training program for internal and HonorHealth resources in the assessment systems; designed a mock assessment training strategy to support employees in learning the process.

Developed and implemented processes and standards for the Outpatient program, including prior authorizations, utilization review and case management procedures. Assisted in managed care contracting.

Partnered with clinicians and business professionals to coordinate and lead community education events to promote health programs and drive awareness.

Continuously introduce new treatment modalities and build partnerships within the community to provide additional resources and support for behavioral health patients.

IASIS HEALTHCARE/ST. LUKE’S BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, Phoenix, AZ 2005 – 2016

Director of Therapy Services/Social Service

Progressed internally, expanding position scope to meet operational demands of this 126-bed psychiatric hospital. Provided strategic leadership of inpatient and outpatient services, including leading daily operations within 2 substance abuse clinics and a mental health clinic. Planned, implemented and administered inpatient and outpatient programs for behavioral health. Built, trained and managed staff of 3 direct and 45 indirect reports.

Oversaw the start-up of a new outpatient facility in Chandler, leading the development and start-up aspects, including securing licensures, onboarding staff and establishing processes and procedures.

Implemented standards and processes for all aspects of the behavioral health program, including treatment modalities, accreditation, health insurance requirements and financing options.

Led the introduction of a serious mental illness (SMI) program providing direct care for pediatric through geriatric patients who have been diagnosed as SMI. Administered care for patients with substance use disorder, as well as depression, anxiety, PTSD and other mental health disorders.

Developed and implemented the risk assessment scale for inpatient services to ensure all patients receive the care and treatment required for optimal outcomes.

Built partnership with McKesson to support the rollout and ongoing management of new electronic medical records (EMR) system. Provided information regarding behavioral health services to support build-out.

Established community partnerships with agencies to support patients with locating housing and resources.

Recognized as subject matter expert (SME) on behavioral and integrated health; selected to lead numerous presentations and community education events.

Served as Incident Commander on the hospital’s Disaster Response team, working with cross-functional resources to develop plans for effectively responding to and managing all emergencies/incidents.

Monitored and reported on the use of diagnostic services, inpatient beds, facilities and staff to ensure effective use of all resources; identified service issues and rolled out improvements as needed.

Maintained compliance and accreditation standards for Joint Commission, Medicare and Arizona state surveys.

Supported the relocation of an existing outpatient facility, handling all development tasks, including finding location, securing leases and ensuring regulatory compliance.
