Background

Oracle EPM Consultant with over 11 years experience implementing Oracle EPM Planning and Budgeting applications for diverse clients across Canada. I have been associated with KPMG for the past 4 years working as a Technical Lead/Analyst in designing and developing EPM Planning and Budgeting solutions for customers across multiple domains.

In my career before KPMG, I have been responsible for developing and delivering several Oracle EPM Planning Applications for Canadian customers in different industries.

Professional and industry experience

During my tenure, I have been involved in EPM project implementations for clients from Utilities, Mining, Pipelines, Infrastructure and Telecom domains. I have worked on end-to-end project lifecycles for multiple applications and have gained immense experience understanding the intricacies of Financial budgeting and forecasting processes and the complexities and challenges involved in developing optimal solutions that help customers transform their business.

IT Systems Implementation

TD Bank: Oracle EDMCS, Migration. May 2020 - Present. TD Bank is in a transition path to cloud from their current on-premises systems. Part of this huge undertaking is moving their current DRM (Data relationship Management) Master data Application to Cloud. Oracle EDMCS was identified as the Cloud Master Data Management tool. Currently, there is direct migration from DRM to EDMCS, so all the DRM artifacts have been manually re-created in EDMCS.

Role: Technical Designer/Developer. I was responsible for working together with the TD Internal Master Data Management team to come up with an Application design that would cater to their current hierarchy management in DRM. As EDMCS (Application based) and DRM (Master data based) are different in architecture we had to re-design the way their master and alternate hierarchies will be built into the cloud application and come with a new integration strategy with the Target systems that feed on these hierarchies.

The approach used was to bring in all Master Hierarchies from DRM and put them in a Master Application in EDMCS. Create individual Export Applications for every target that gets information currently out of DRM. Create maintenance views by dimension type using the Master and Export Application views. Use the Federated approach to subscribe the Export views to the Master view, so that any change to the Master hierarchy will be reflected in the Export hierarchy.

Environment and Technical Skills: Oracle EDMCS, EPM Automate, SSIS, RESTful API

ATCO: Oracle EPBCS, Capex. Mar 2020-Apr 2020. The existing EPBCS Capital Expenditure Budgeting and Forecasting application was not functioning as expected and financial users stopped using the application and went back to using Excel for their budgeting needs. Consequently, the production application was down for almost two months. KPMG was brought onboard to resolve the current production issues and bring the application back online.

Role: Technical Developer. As the Technical developer, I was responsible for working together with the ATCO Strategic team in understanding and identifying the problem/issues with their existing Capex application and to provide a working solution in a limited time frame. The major issue identified was with the design the previous vendor implemented and the problems it caused in the long term for the application. As there was not enough time to re-design the application, I had to come up with some quick and innovative solutions to circumvent the design issues. We were able to resolve around 300 issue items that were logged as not working in the current application and successfully brought it back online in production after performing a thorough end to end user acceptance testing.

Environment and Technical Skills: Oracle EPBCS Cloud, Groovy.

Metrolinx: Oracle EPM Planning, Workforce. Jan 2017-Feb 2020. The team was brought to enhance and optimize the existing Workforce application that had 3 main components: Salary/Workforce Budgeting, Financials Analytics and Reporting. KPMG reviewed the business processes and assessed the current solution evaluating areas of enhancements, addition of new processes like Forecasting, Hierarchies Archiving and Cost Allocations, developed direct communications with the source Systems (Integration with HCM, Workbrain and EBS) and re-built the report capabilities providing more and accurate detail. The team developed and documented all the business processes and technologies involved in the project, helped with the training materials and fully transitioned to Metrolinx operations for the on-going support.

Role: Technical Lead/Analyst. As the Technical developer responsible for developing the Labor Module of the Workforce Planning application, I had to interact with multiple subject matter experts to gather requirements, convert the requirements into tangible deliverables and assist the client team with integrating data from Human Capital Management and Workbrain data source systems into EPM. I was responsible for the design, development and testing of the labor application through the lifecycle of the project. I also took the additional responsibility of developing a model to assist the client team to perform data validation and verification on the HCM data to make sure it adheres to the budgeting and planning data protocol.

TELUS: Hyperion Planning and Essbase, HR Demand and Supply. Jan 2016-Aug 2016. Was responsible for implementing a solution to help with the estimation of the supply and demand of personnel required to cover the services offered by TELUS. Combining information of internal personnel, contractors and partners. These processes included methodologies to consider seasonality, trending and specific promotion events. Without being a completely financial solution, its importance is critical for the operation given the relevance of the information it provides. Helping multiple areas with decision-making like: sales, marketing, HR and O&M.

Role: Technical Analyst. As a Technical developer, I was responsible for developing a solution to help with the estimation of the supply and demand of personnel required to cover the services offered by the company. This implementation is unique as it is not a regular workforce planning application but more of a strategic forecasting application based on trends and seasonality. The solution demanded to be dynamic and intelligent making use of historical information to predict the future accurately. The solution was successfully implemented, and the customer was able to make 2 million dollars in savings in the first two years by accurately forecasting using the application.

ATCO: Hyperion Planning and Essbase On-Prem, Workforce, CAPEX, Financials, Budget Consolidation and Strategic Modeling. Jan 2014-Dec 2015. Developed and implemented a program to replace all the applications that were non-enterprise in the departments of finances in the 6 main business of the company. Each financial area of each business would require an application of Financial Statements, O&M and CAPEX. All would have to standardize catalogs of accounts and cost centers, as well as maintain communication between the applications at the business level and communication of the financial statements to Corporate to be able to make the final consolidation at the company level. As a result of this implementation, redundancies were eliminated, data quality was improved, response times were improved in the required reports of each business processes, there was a better visibility of the information and facilitated the audit process.

Role: Technical Analyst. As the Technical Developer, I was responsible for developing five EPM Planning Applications to replace the traditional excel sheet planning for different business entities of the company. The applications developed were mainly O&M and CAPEX functionality with integration to the source ERP systems using Oracle Date Integrator. Every application was different in terms of requirements and complexity, so adaptability, flexibility, robustness and continuous learning were key aspects in successful completion of these projects. As a result of this implementation, the customer was able to perform accurate budgeting and forecasting and were able to generate professional and intuitive financial reports to the stakeholders.

TECK Resources Ltd: Hyperion Planning, Financials Model. Apr 2013-Dec 2013. Implemented a solution that reduced the time to generate and consolidate the budget to 1.5 weeks. Given that there was an intense manual effort to consolidate information from different countries in different currencies, the original process was taking approximately 4 weeks and required the participation of between 5 and 8 people to do it. Considering that in the mining industry the budgets generally contemplate a window of 30 to 40 years in their budgets, the processes and calculations have to have the flexibility of being driver-base and of readjusting and reconsolidating the data contained in each period to show the information correct in each report.

Role: Integration Developer. Architected and implemented a data integration solution that improved the process of moving data from their consolidated financial management system to planning and budgeting system seamless. The solution was implemented using Oracle data integrator and EPM Maestro and was required to be dependable as it was run on a daily to monthly basis.
