HOUSTON-GALVESTON AREA COUNCIL (H-GAC) 1997-2018

Senior Outreach Coordinator/Contract Manager

Management and oversight of a $4.5 million budget for advertising, marketing and public relations, including the review, evaluation and analysis of Requests for Proposals for primary service providers, subcontractors, and vendors. Managed, evaluated, and provided technical assistance to contractors. Interpreted local, state and federal regulations. Worked in collaboration with other local, state, and federal government agencies.

Led team in helping to establish, build, position and manage the Clean Air and Commute Solutions Brands throughout the eight-county region delivering award-winning advertising campaigns, public involvement and community outreach programs and market research and focus group initiatives.

oDeveloped and executed marketing strategies that significantly increased brand awareness and identity, public involvement and community engagement for Clean Air and Commute Solutions programs among residents and key stakeholders.

oThe Clean Air Campaign delivered from zero to more than 200 Clean Air Champions from small businesses as well as Fortune 500 corporations who all implemented Clean Air programs throughout their organizations.

oCommute Solutions and Clear Air Initiatives have reached an estimated 6.5MM residents throughout the eight-county region via advertising, earned media, public involvement and community outreach programs and initiatives.

Supervised, planned and organized all special events and meetings for the agency functions, including conferences, webinars, workshops, marketing events, receptions, outdoor events and press conferences.

During 20-year tenure at H-GAC, directed the planning and execution of $15MM-$20MM in sponsorships and donations.

Negotiated vendor contracts that focused on service, scope and objectives.

Established budgets, reviewed locations, and chose venues. Ensured best rates by skillfully negotiating with suppliers, vendors and entertainers. Sourced highly qualified caterers and florist’s services.

Served as the primary point-of-contact for all involved vendors. Developed relationships within the community to boost attendance levels. Monitored staffing levels in all service areas to ensure exceptional member service.

Worked directly with in-house printers to design and produce all marketing materials and with external printers to coordinate the artwork and production of all marketing collateral such as poster signage, invitations, programs and banners.

Supervised all planning for the annual promotional events: Fresh Air Friday; Commute Solutions Month Kickoff Event; The “My Solution Is …” Press Conference and Transportation Fair; Clean Air Action Leadership Awards Luncheon; Clean Fleet Technologies Conference; Commute Solutions Night with the Houston Astros; Commute Solutions Night with Sugar Land Skeeters; Commute Solutions Night with the University of Houston; Regional Telework Luncheon; and the H-GAC Drayage Truck Fair.

Secured keynote speakers and master of ceremonies and managed H-GAC sponsored promotional events including, but not limited to, Telework Transportation Fairs, Fresh Air Friday, University of Houston, H-GAC Luncheons, Road Warriors, Energy Corridor Brown Bag Luncheons and H-GAC Transportation Public Meetings and Comments for communities/residents throughout the eight-county region.

oSpeakers included U.S. Rep. Gene Green, 29th Congressional District; U.S. Rep. Oversaw and coordinated the execution of the H-GAC Bicycle and Pedestrian Program to improve mobility and safety for pedestrians and bicyclists throughout the eight-county Houston-Galveston region which started in May 2007. Also, managed Gilbreath Communications in the development and execution of creative materials for bicycle and pedestrian program.

Managed and oversaw advertising, marketing and public relations contract budget for key public outreach campaigns, including the Clean Air Action Program; Clean Vehicles; Clean School Bus; and AirCheck Texas; Reviewed monthly billings and invoices for reimbursements to contractors; and responded to day-to-day requests from contractors

Directed planning and execution of sponsorships/donations: Past sponsors included Silver Eagle Distributors, H-E-B, CenterPoint Energy, BP, Shell, Compucom, Knapp Chevrolet; Port of Houston Authority; Pricewaterhouse Coopers; Houston Dynamo; METRO; Birraporetti’s; Houston Astros; Smoothie King; M.D. Anderson; Frenchy’s; Hewlett Packard; and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic

Spearheaded and secured long-term partnerships to promote the Commute Solutions Program; Partnerships included the Houston Astros; Sugar Land Skeeters; City of Bellaire; City of Sugar Land; City of Humble; MetroNational; Energy Corridor; City of Houston; Crescent; Cousins; Management Districts; M.D. Anderson; and St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital.
