Assessment of Sleep Deprivation on Academic Performance among Cadets of Nigeria Defence Academy

MANUSCRIPTS BEING PREPARED FOR PUBLICATION:

Resilience Training of Military and Civilian Families to Combat Trauma of War and Terrorism in Journal of Clinical Psychology. The involvement of Nigerian Military both in peace operations, war mission and counter terrorism operation has proved the result of the hard military training of both men and women either at officer ranks and other ranks. The challenge of counter terror- ism in the past eight (8) years has exposed the military to more tactical opera- tions considering the gorilla like tactics employed by the insurgence. Military training in the Nigerian army is a tested ground for only the hard and rocky that could survive the rigor of the stages of training. Serving in the Nigerian army is a much-respected job. Nevertheless, it is quite hard to pass Nigerian army training without a deep physical grounding.

Assessment of Sleep Deprivation on Academic Performance of Cadets in Nigerian Defence Academy. Sleep is an innate biological rhythm and a physio- logical need of every living being. We are lured into a realm of mental escapades either by the body timing or due to a stressor. Sleep is not just a pleasurable state of consciousness or unconsciousness but seen as a repair theory and eco- logical theory. How long can someone go without sleep and still function? Previ- ous studies on sleep deprivation argue that performance can be optimized by sleeping more than 8 hours a day. Combining Military training and academic ac- tivities makes cadets vulnerable to sleep deprivation. Page 4 of 7

Recession: Impact and Effect on Students Academic Performance (Lit- erature). The concept of academic performance is a source of concern to par- ents, teachers and institutions. Higher scores indicate better academic perfor- mance. However, the recent economic recession on the nation Nigeria call for an assessment on academic performance. This research sample is on the cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy. A carefully designed academic performance scale and questionnaires distributed randomly at different academic level, find out the impact of recession on academic performance with a specific reference to cadets.

Series: A collections of monthly IEC Materials on Health, Social and Lifestyle. These are collections from a ‘Wordly’ a monthly publication on series of contemporary issues in health, Social life and lifestyle.

Assessment of Psychological Trauma and Social Support among Military Families of North –East Boko Haram Mission. The role of the military in se- curing the peace and protecting the nation from both internal and external threat has been challenged to its barest minimal with the surge of insurgency in the North East. Research has shown that most military family shows traumatic signs and symptoms before, during or after their spouses are sent on the mission to the North East. Therefore, this study examines the psychological trauma among 160 military families drawn from five different military Barracks within Kaduna metropolis. This research work intends to look at the pre and post traumatic challenges of military families whose spouse are on mission in the North East on the fight against insurgency.

Resilience Training of Military and Civilian Families to Combat Trauma of War and Terrorism. War and terrorism are man’s perpetrated acts of vio- lence, that vary along a number of dimensions such as the diversity of the war- related traumatic stressors, the zone of impact (single site or multiple sites), fre- quency and duration of exposure (single or multiple events) and their effects on family, social and community infrastructure as well as life sustaining variables such as access to food, water, shelter, and protection from disease. The impact of war-related stressors may occur as the direct result of physical and visual impact, Page 5 of 7

media exposure, or through the various forms of interpersonal experiences — the wounding and killing of loved ones, the brutal rape and torturing of innocent vic- tims, malnutrition, starvation, disease and emotional contagion, and social dis- ruption and the loss of peer related experiences, routinized family, school and community life. In some instances, children may be kidnapped and forced to par- ticipate as child warriors in violent acts under the threat of losing their own lives. RESEARCH INTEREST:
