PROJECTS

2019: Deep brain stimulation booklet, working across disciplines to support this patient population and aid in establishing a center-based approach for patients in the greater Richmond area.

Networking with the Alzheimer’s disease foundation to set up resources-meetings-educational programs-support groups- for this patient population in a familiar locale-our facility to bridge the gap in the need for caregiver/patient support in terms of planning ahead, safety, challenging behaviors and education about diseases affecting memory. The primary focus being on alleviating caregiver role strain, safety in the community and at home, and knowing what resources are in the community around them.

2012-19: Various team building activities, provided in services annually, recognition of staff and leaders. Assisted in graduate school initiative to promote interdisciplinary team approach in terms of providing care to patients. Spoke to rising seniors of BSN nursing program to provide counseling and motivational anticipation of a spectacular career ahead of them- as an experience RN in my final year of my graduate degree.

2009-2010: ICU- Project improvement plan implementation utilizing evidence-based practice for the VAP ICU bundle. Implementation purpose was to decrease the unit rates of ventilator associated pneumonia. This unit had a high percentage of vulnerable VAP patients. The incidence of VAP decreased each quarter after the initiation of the bundle and adherence to the protocol. This promoted accountability and improved patient outcomes in a simple to follow, evidence-based protocol. Included in this project was patient, family, staff, inter-disciplinary team teaching. This was accomplished through facility, unit, and team poster presentation and demonstration of protocol and expectations. Educational pamphlets for patients and families were created, distributed and reviewed upon admission into unit.

2008: ICU - Led organization/move efforts post unit renovation/merge/consolidation to create (1) 14 bed ICU from (2) ICU’s. Motivated collaboration in this project to create buy-in and compliance by having the two teams work together in devising an organization strategy that all staff deemed necessary to workflow. This promoted a sense of team and value for both units that aided in the merger to one geographic and team unit. Collaborated on mission and vision for the new unit. Aided in the creation of mission and vision display for unit opening. Collaborated in creating a streamlined and aesthetically pleasing patient communication and assignment board with ability to change design at low cost without changing the entire board. Assisted in logistics of the move and organization of environment like the 2006 project on NVU.

2006: NVU- Led post renovations organization efforts. Including stock room set up by utilizing a systematic approach to organizing supplies by body system and purpose. Nursing station: labeling and organizing forms by frequency, set up computers/printers/devices in a workflow-minded manner. Patient rooms optimized for ease of movement and to prevent patient falls. Collaborated in unit education on care of kidney transplant, vascular, and neuro patients. Promoted, participated, and assisted in auditing a pilot program for hourly rounding which became standard practice for the facility.

2004: Participate in Project improvement plan for decrease of falls and safety promotion in high risk/rate unit.

2003-present: Literature/research review/in-services on evidence-based research as well as new trends in practice presented frequently throughout career at minimum of yearly. Follow multiple clinical journals and best practice articles.

VOLUNTEER

South University 2018: Participated in Interdisciplinary projects throughout my last year, including simulation labs in the role of FNP with other disciplines- Nursing, OTA, Faculty, to foster the importance of each role in the patients care. Spoke to rising senior BSN students about all things Nursing and what to expect when entering the work force.

GRAC 2016: Planning committee for Odyssey, an annual Richmond conference that brings together progressive and critical care nurses across the state for continuing education. Contributions: Speakers (Virginia Poison Control and Dr. Asi-Bautista) for two sessions, time keeping for speakers, appreciation gestures for speakers. Collaboration: topic planning and order, organization of conference agenda, and day of event support.

GRAC 2016/2017: Co-chair for PCCN/CCRN review course, a course that demonstrates excellence in knowledge and practice designate via AACN. Contributions: taught/reviewed GI section of course, provided and distributed marketing material for event (save the date) over multiple platforms, secured adjunct speaker over a working lunch (Dr. Martin Starkman). Provided daily support to co-chairs and attendees over the course dates. Collaboration: Brochure, agenda, course layout, distribution of responsibilities, and roster/attendance keeping. 2010 course- provided supportive role to chairs of program via set-up, breakdown, and securing food provided for 2-day course.
