Experience

Dr Maria Cristina Bravi has worked at San Camillo-Forlanini Hospital in Rome, Italy since 2002. She is specialist in Internal Medicine and Urgent Care. Firstly, she worked in Accidents and Emergency Department. During her stay at A&E she showed competence and empathy and also good interpersonal skills. Then she moved to Internal Medicine ward where she worked managing complex cases such as patients with cardiovascular, pulmonary, oncological, neurovascular and diseases of the endocrine system . She also worked as consultant at Gynecology Department managing cases of gestational hypertension, preeclampsia/eclampsia, HELLP syndrome and gestational diabetes. To complete her medical competence and experience, she moved from Internal Medicine Ward to Stroke Unit at Neuroscience Department where she has been working since 2015. In that context, she takes care of patients with cerebrovascular disease such as stroke, TIA, and intracranial hemorrhage treating them with intravenous thrombolysis when indicated according to European Stroke Organization guidelines. She also works in team with interventional neuroradiology supporting patients whom undergo to mechanical thrombectomy for artery occlusion or stenosis in Intensive Care Unit. She also works as consultant in Internal Medicine in Neuroscience Department where she takes care of patients in urgent care and out clinic patients treating complex cases of endocrine, cardiovascular and infectious diseases. During her hospital routine she also uses telemedicine to share complex medical cases with experts and to improve the quality of and access to care while lowering costs.

As infection of Covid-19 spread through the country, due to increases number of cases admitted to the hospital she also manage patients with mild acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) in Internal Medicine ward and in Stroke Unit according to the internal protocol of National Institute of Infection disease “Lazzaro Spallanzani” in collaboration with WHO and also referring to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Treatment Guidelines of the National Institutes of Health ( https://www.covid19treatmentguidelines.nih.gov/) . To assess patients at high risk of evolution of the disease ( with an exaggerated immune/inflammatory response to the infection) she uses MEWS (Modified Early Warning Score) and a panel of lab test ( ABGs, Anion Gap, PCR, Ferritin, Albumin, AST, ALT, LDH, Troponin BUN/Creatinine ratio, D-dimer, FBC ), and clinical evaluation in daily routine.
