BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING- PROJECT

Design and Construction details of Post Tensioned Slabs

My thesis is focused on the design aspects and construction details of the post-tensioned slabs in Lanco Hills, Hyderabad, India. Generally, construction of slabs requires 7 days for the usage whereas, PT slabs can be used within 3 days and the tensioning of the slabs is handled with the help of the jack system. The construction details were acquired from the site area and the analysis of these slabs was performed using Staad Pro v 9.0 software.

MASTER OFTECHNOLOGY- PROJECT

Application of Image Analysis to determine the elastic properties of soils

The Poissons ratio and Elastic modulus of soil are considered as the most pivotal parameter for any infrastructural purposes. For determining these properties for the soil, it is quite tedious. Earlier researchers depicted several theories/techniques to determine the elastic properties of the soil which are creating some disturbances on the surface on the soil matrix such as geophysical methods. However, a novel methodology has been investigated to determine the elastic properties of soil by non-disturbance, simple and easy method. A set of images were acquired during the performance of Unconfined Compression tests using Image Acquisition Analysis System (IAAS) with an interval of 1s. Further, these images were used for determining the elastic properties of soil such as Poissons ratio and Elastic modulus of soil using ImageJ software along with Matlab interface. As a part of the ground modification, the soil was thoroughly mixed with increasing the percentage of 0, 2.5, 5, and 10 % (by weight) of the cement proportion along with polypropylene fiber (0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4%, by weight) and their effect on the elastic properties ofsoil.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY- PROJECT

Monitoring and Early Warning System for Rainfall-Induced Landslides

Slope instability causes landslides which have been the major cause of disasters resulting in considerable loss of human lives and property damages in the Mountainous terrain of India, especially in the Himalayan region. Mostly, landslides occur because of triggering mechanisms, such as rainfall, earthquakes, changes in vegetation patterns and human intervention for infrastructural needs. Several methods, technologies and approaches have been listed in the literature to understand the failure phenomenon of these infinite slopes. However, the applicability of such theories may not be approachable to the present failures taking place in-around Mandi region due to continuous seepage and soil heterogeneity conditions. To understand the cause, focusing on to Geological, Geotechnical and Hydrological parameters are to be considered. The present research aids in understanding the field parameters such as permeability, precipitation-runoff-seepage quantities, pore pressure and temporal changes in the soil-water characteristics and thereby the effect on the soil strength and slope

stability. The effective parameters obtained from the factor of safety analysis can be further used for landslide monitoring and prediction methods. Early knowledge of an impending landslide can help government agencies and local people to make, plan efforts to minimize the adverse impacts.
