HCC Libraries

Houston Community College

**** **** **

Houston, TX 77002

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my interest in the recently advertised Library Assistant at Houston Community Colleges. The combination of my qualifications and professional experience makes me a strong candidate for this role, and I am enthusiastic to speak with you further about how I would be a good fit for the position.

During my Library and Information Science (LIS) education at Simmons University in Boston and Yonsei University in Seoul, my focus centered on a purposeful design of LIS services to improve library users’ connection to information in academic library settings. With the support of the tech-driven academic environment at Yonsei, I invested myself in facilitating research data management, participating in government funded projects for the development of academic libraries. My internship at Simmons University Library in particular has equipped me with solid knowledge of academic librarianship, and my technical skills of how to tailor LibGuides to best meet user needs. After a ten-year career in content development for the Korean English Education industry, my passion for continuous learning has led me to expand my profession in the LIS field. As a result of a wide range of project management experience, I am able to perform tasks with strong goal-orientation and soft skills that will serve you well as a reliable Library Specialist I in a collaborative environment. Currently, I am applying my LIS education to my position as a library assistant at the Public Library of Brookline, Massachusetts. In addition to the increased familiarity with LIS techniques, my ongoing achievements include public service expertise and enhanced user-centered mindset through interaction with patrons. My other current position at the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University has enabled me to gain knowledge of collection maintenance in terms of contextualizing metadata based on users’ needs. While grappling with the reference use of the catalog, I have been able to consolidate my understanding of digital stewardship and improve my reference skills in archival contexts.

Because so much of my professional background transfers directly to effective assistance of library operations, I am confident that my involvement at HCC Library will be a valuable asset to the improvement of scholarly communication, supporting academic progress at Houston Community College. I look forward to having a more detailed discussion with you about how I can contribute to HCC’s core values, with emphasis on diversity and inclusion. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely,

Angela LEE
