-During medical school, I took part in a Community Diagnosis Programme. We visited Bolde Village, a remote part of Nepal 4 times over a course of 2 years. We stayed at Bolde Phedichhee Health Post for 1 week in each visit. The tools used included pre-tested questionnaires, weighing machines, measuring tapes, thermometer, watch, stethoscopes, and sphygmomanometers. The topics covered in the household survey included: the demographic profile, economic status, environmental sanitation, latrine facility, kitchen ventilation, maternal and child health, personal hygiene, nutritional status, smoking habit, literacy level, assessment of their knowledge on family planning, vaccines, and vitals. We concluded that major problems were lack of solid waste management, poor kitchen sanitation, and lack of education about diseases such as HIV, TB. Afterward, we implemented our intervention methods which included a Manure pit digging demonstration and health awareness via a poster presentation and pamphlet distribution.
