Pharmacy Intern: 307 in-patient bed institution and community hospital owned by a larger entity; Berkshire Health Systems.

Conducted home visits for a low-income population to improve control of their chronic disease states. Encountered patients in a diabetes, COPD and asthma in a clinical environment enhancing the ability to educate and communicate with patients.

September 2019 Holyoke Medical Center

Preceptor: Grant Stebbins, PharmD. (Institutional)

Participated in several administrative duties, including a pharmacy and therapeutics committee meeting. This meeting was contributory to a formulary addition to the institution. After personal research into evidence-based medicine; the benefit of Hoffman’s Elimination in this specific patient population was presented and approved. It was estimated by switching from rocuronium to Nimbex in the ICU will decrease the cost for every patient requiring a continuous infusion in non-intubated patients in ICU.

Embraced the ability to reach the community and actively educate and participate in vaccination clinics to increase safety throughout the facility and elsewhere. Several interventions made with patient providers to improve medication safety.

Involved with administration and ensuring no mistakes were to leave the facility. This particular site was involved with production of intravenous medications and assisted-living facilities that had to have certain medications bubble-packed or compounded. Several total parental nutrition evaluations and calculations were done daily.

Community Service

January, 2020 Mercy Medical Center, Springfield MA. As a past intern at the facility, a patient requested a visit in the Diabetes Education Department.

December, 2019 Morris Elementary School, Lenox MA. Working with the children who need extra help in specific subjects’ afterschool.

May, 2019 Western Massachusetts Food Bank, Hatfield MA. An exemplary organization and day spent with volunteers that come weekly to help sort and distribute food and care to those in need. It is invaluably to help a neighbor in need as the organization says; full of genuinely caring individuals.

April, 2019 JFDR Type 1 Diabetes walk to help raise money and donate to individuals that need the support. This took place in West Springfield, MA.

March, 2019 Alzheimer’s Association walk to help raise awareness and education; including using donations to improve care of those in need and strive for more research into development of a product for cure or to reverse the disease. Holyoke, MA.
