Record and retrieve patient data, outcomes, and communicate with patients for up to 5 years after surgery using Epic, MBSAQIP Software, and Microsoft excel as needed.

Provides patient data, reports, surveys, and requests as needed. Will serve as the back-up Bariatric Clinical Reviewer.

Assist patients via telephone including directing to other personnel, navigating web-site, on-line seminars, answering questions, or navigating bariatric program.

Ensure compliance and maintenance of MBSAQIP and other Bariatric Quality Program(s) standards and designation.

Assist in the selection of the proper equipment and ensures the availability of bariatric appropriate equipment to the proper units (gowns, wheelchairs, etc.).

Assist in developing pre and post op orders, policies, and procedures for the bariatric patient and educate staff to the specific concerns of these orders.

Develop and assist with educating staff regarding specific needs of the bariatric patient.

Assist with the protocols for bariatric surgery and with precepting new surgeons and representatives to the facility and MBSAQIP program.

Coordinate support groups by overseeing the equipment needs, organizing presenters, providing educational input to patients, introducing facilitators, mailing flyers, emailing patients, etc.

Meet with bariatric surgeons, staff, and team to facilitate meetings, in-services, etc.

Assists with performance improvement and quality management of the hospital to develop and maintain bariatric according to MBSAQIP Standards.

Assist in the process of developing a diet protocol for the bariatric patient through coordinating with program dietitians, hospital dietitians, and/or MBS Committee.

Determines in an ethical manner all decisions and actions on behalf of patients.

Collaborates with the other members of the bariatric program to perform administrative duties.

Bariatric Services Clinical Reviewer 2016-2019

Maintains compliance with national standards set forth by the accrediting body,

the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgical Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).

Successfully carried out an accreditation renewal in October 2016 and February 2019 by the MBSAQIP.

Coordinates with office staff in quality improvement efforts.

Monitors and reports complications.

Assist with navigating patients through the surgical process; before, during and after surgery.

Available to the nursing staff as well as office staff to help with any bariatric related issues.

Provide the patient with education before, during and after surgery.

Identifies 100 percent of bariatric surgical patients and includes them in the data registry.

Responsible for accurate and timely entry into the program's data registry.

Collects preoperative, intraoperative, 30-day postoperative, and long-term (six-month, and annual thereafter) follow-up data components for the program through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record systems and through coordinated effort with individual surgeon's office staff.

Reviews medical records of bariatric surgical patients.

Tracks extended length of stay and associated reasons, readmissions to the hospital within 30 days, reoperations within 30 days and documents data into data registry.

Collaborates with various hospital departments and demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data needed for entry into the data registry.

Makes follow up phone calls to patients to obtain information regarding follow-up data that must be entered into the data registry.

Attends Bariatric Team meetings, COE monthly/quarterly meetings, site surveys, teleconferences, audits and other meetings pertaining to ASMBS and ACS Center of Excellence certification.

Makes phone calls or sends emails to remind or reschedule information or education, and support group meetings.

Orders and stocks office supplies and resource materials as needed; practices cost containment when ordering supplies. Assists with assembling of information packets, discharge packets, patient education materials and support group materials.

Effectively communicates with members of the multidisciplinary care team to ensure safe delivery of patient care.

Provides assistance to and clarifies patient care requirements for members of the nursing staff.

Utilizes the nursing process to deliver specialized bedside nursing care to the bariatric patient population as needed.
