Clinical Experience

May - July 2020: Administered telehealth services to clients form the Minnesota State University – Mankato: Center for Communication Sciences and Disorders. My clients were diagnosed with severe aphasia and severe dysarthria. Fall semester of my second year of graduate studies, 2019, I worked under supervision of a certified speech-language pathologist as a speech-language pathology graduate intern at Franklin Elementary School in Mankato, MN. At this internship, I provided therapy to a caseload of 65 children (ages ranged 4-11) with a variety of speech-language disorders. These disorders included expressive / receptive language, autism spectrum disorder, articulation disorders, phonological processing disorders, voice and resonance, and fluency disorders. I wrote goals, therapy logs, evaluation reports, and assisted in writing IEP’s. This internship provided me with experience of being a speech-language pathologist in a fast-paced, diverse, and hands-on school setting.

2018-19: Worked under supervision of a practicing speech-language pathologist in my clinical practicum for both audiology and speech-language pathology at the Minnesota State University – Mankato: Center for Communication Sciences and Disorders. I was the graduate clinician for several clients with mild – severe aphasia, articulation disorders, pragmatic language deficits, voice banking, and literacy deficits. For my clients, I independently and efficiently wrote therapy plans, progress notes, treatment plans, management plans, and progress reports.

Fall 2017: Worked under supervision of a graduate student and supervisor with two clients in the Minnesota State University – Mankato: Center for Communication Sciences and Disorders. One adolescent client with a severe articulation disorder, and the other an adult with global aphasia and severe apraxia of speech. For my clients I wrote therapy plans, lead several sessions, and wrote progress notes. Graduate & Undergraduate Research

August - November 2019: Involved in a research project involving communication strategies in adults with aphasia under the supervision of Dr. Sheen Chiou. The goal of this research was to find the most effective communication strategies for people with aphasia, among other tasks. This research was presented at the state level at the MNSHA convention in April 2019, as well as the national level at the ASHA convention in November, 2019. Fall of 2017, I was involved with a research project involving language and literacy under supervision of Dr. Megan Mahowald. The goal of this research was working toward the development of speech language pathology progress monitoring tools. Tasks in this research included transcribing and analyzing language samples from children with language disorders, analyzing potential data from rural and urban school districts, and correlating between district and state assessments. I, along with other students involved, presented our data at Minnesota State University – Mankato’s Undergraduate Research Convention and at the Minnesota Speech and Hearing Association (MSHA) Convention.
