Created from scratch the database for a brand new “Dentistry.com” website. Database is SQL Server Azure 2017 based. Built and refined the infrastructure, data architecture, and data models. Majority of the business functionality and row level database security are implemented in stored procedures, functions, and triggers. 07/16-07/17 Sr. Programmer Analyst, L.A. Care Health Plan, Los Angeles, CA (contract)

Modified and streamlined the daily import process of bringing QNXT (medical claims system by TriZetto) claims data from the replica of production database to one of the MPSS (Medical Payment Systems and Services) servers by creating and scheduling SQL Server Agent job that incorporates SSIS packages and email notifications. Modified existing and created new MS SQL Server 2012 stored procedures and queries to adequately report on Pay discount (interest), total check, void checks, and other amounts. Created a plethora of complex ad-hoc queries in response to multiple requests from the Claims group. Created new SQL Server Agent job to automate the reconciliation mechanism between the General Ledger and Benaissance payments data within SSIS package, with producing multiple “match” and “mismatch” reports as a result. Reworked some existing reports by producing better performing and speed sufficient T-SQL queries while making them more scalable at the same time.

Created and automated various daily and monthly ETL processes and reports for Benaissance payment and QNXT enrollment/eligibility systems such as detailed daily “Unallocated amounts” report with several sub-reports, daily “BeniQnxt” report that does some reconciliation between two systems, monthly “Benaissance Cash” report, etc. While doing that created a plethora of SSIS packages in Visual Studio 2008, 2010, and 2013 environments running against SQL Server 2012; in the majority of cases created SQL Server Agent jobs to fully automate the processing and output the results - typically to Excel files with multiple tabs for the end user. Automated launch of scheduled monthly reports, automated processing of the weekly import of Recon files from the state of California by looking for the new files on a daily basis, uploading data to the database with some massaging and data transformation techniques along the way, and archiving the data.

11/12-11/15 Manager, Database Development, Fandango/NBCUniversal Media, LLC, Los Angeles, CA

Worked with all database environments (development, QA, production, reporting). Production OLTP databases (MS SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2012) have been the main focus of the last 8+ years of working for Fandango/NBCUniversal Media.

Acting as a System Architect, participated in all phases of the application development life-cycle: from planning, analysis and design to implementation and maintenance. Utilized “waterfall” and “agile “(scrum) methodologies. Stand-up meetings and participation in creating epics, stories, and tasks were regular parts of my schedule. Worked closely with product and project managers, constant cross-team communications.

Interviewed plenty of candidates to pick the best people to work in the database development and reporting teams. Paid close attention to technical qualifications as well as interpersonal and communication skills. Successfully managed the team of 3 senior database developers.

Created company-wide standards for T-SQL code development and made sure those standards are enforced for every new single line of code.

Oversaw, coordinated, and participated as a hands-on manager and the member of the group, which included Sr. Database Developer and Sr. Database Architect, in the step by step database development in multiple projects, for instance:

Fundamental re-design and re-architecting of the process by which movie show times data is loaded and worked on in the database, using strict normalization rules, “key-value pair” approach as needed.

Total re-design of the process by which the movie theaters data is stored and worked on in the database, using strict normalization rules, “key-value pair” approach as needed.

Fixing incorrect zip code and geographical location coordinates stored in the database, fixing corresponding formulas to calculate the shortest distances between the center of the zip code and movie theaters within the given radius that would allow for easier and faster caching of the data.

Collected multiple changes to the certain data points in the tables for the Content team by utilizing the Change Data Capture (CDC) feature of MS SQL Server 2008 with the following transfer of the captured changes from CDC tables to the non-relational CouchBase database.

Helped different teams (Commerce, Product, Content) building speed sufficient T-SQL code, query tuning and table indexing in SQL Server 2008, 2012. Utilized the latest features of each version of SQL Server (for instance Merge statement, new version of Insert statement for SQL Server 2008, etc.).

Constantly participated in all projects that involve database development including communicating with remote developers in Mexico and synchronizing the efforts of multiple teams (Content, Commerce, and DB development).

02/07-11/12 Sr. Database Developer, Fandango, Inc. Los Angeles, CA

Created a plethora of ad-hoc queries by requests from Accounting, Marketing, and other departments. Queries were run against Reporting/Data Warehouse environments and sometimes production servers.

Developed multiple reports within Data Warehouse for Accounting, Marketing, and other departments with the use of SSRS and Microsoft Visual Studio. Created and maintained a plethora of SSIS packages to transfer and massage data from production to other environments. Automated various daily and monthly ETL processes and reports.

Fully designed and implemented an end-to-end scalable ETL system, involving multiple components: SSIS as a main processing pipeline.

Created logical and physical dimensional models for Data Warehouse based on Kimball methodology, utilizing Star and Snowflake schemas. Worked with reporting environment (creating new reporting interfaces in MS Visual Studio and underlying stored procedures for Accounting and Marketing departments).

Participated in the setting up and testing of database replication in SQL Server 2005 between different database environments. The result was a “no go” – the replication process itself was working too slowly.

Created and modified a plethora of stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, indexed views, and other db objects for the highly transactional (sometimes more than 80,000 transactions per hour) production environment.

Helped in migration of all servers from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005, and from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008, and then to SQL Server 2012. Specifically worked on the potential code breakers.

As a lead DB developer participated in creation of the database foundation for the newly redesigned website Movies.com and developed the new database to store movie ratings, buzzes, and reviews.

Performed database code (T-SQL) and code performance reviews for the entire development community of Fandango engineers (30+ people). Not a single line of the database code was allowed to be deployed to QA or Production environments without an approval from our team.

Taught and instructed newcomers to the team on how to properly and efficiently create queries and stored procedures, and T-SQL code in general.

Weekly deployment of modified/new database objects and code to QA and Production servers. Personally participated and/or deployed all the database scripts into Production environment during releases.

09/02-02/07 Sr. Database Developer, Answer Financial, Inc., Encino, CA

Created and supported intelligent mechanism for archiving of most important production database objects. Designed, developed and implemented Agent Compensation Automation application based on agent’s NT login and hierarchical structure of Sales Center. Created rather complicated scripts and ad-hoc queries. Tried participating in the development cycle of new projects from start to avoid having performance bottlenecks at the end, using the best database programming practices and techniques. Solved a lot of performance related issues by using best possible indexing, “derived” tables, avoiding using cursors, etc.

Participated in conversion from SQL Server 7.0 to SQL Server 2000.
