At Mount Carmel I first started as an orthopedic nurse. The role was admitting, recovering, and discharging post op orthopedic surgeries. I was charge and staffed a 36 bed unit with a very high patient turnover daily rate.
I moved to an interim education position on the same unit revamping the structure of orientation for new nurses and aids. I also scheduled all education and staffing needs for this unit.
I began my critical care start in CCU here. This is where I interpreted EKG changes, assisted with placing temporary pacemakers. It was my responsibility to be a part of organ procurement. Hypothermia and brain death was a weekly assignment. CVVHD, Alines, Pacers, Swanzs, Ventilators, and titrating meds was a critical part of my job.
