Molecular Biology Lab

Responsibilities:

1- Molecular laboratory PCR.

Evaluate specimens received by the department and organize workflow to provide optimum efficiency of testing and turnaround time of result.

Extract, denature and purify DNA/RNA from assorted specimen types.

Perform PCR, hybridization, and genetic sequencing methods.

Evaluate result to determine interference, inhibition, or other problems that arise during extraction, amplification, or sequencing of DNA.

Perform quality control, validation, and other quality activities to verify performance of clinical assays.

Maintain equipment by performing assigned maintenance activities and troubleshot unexpected problem with equipment.

Evaluate inventory of supplies and reagents and communicate order needs.

Operate complex equipment and computer programs related to equipment and LIS system

Maintain record of test results and archives of data.

Maintain a neat and clean work environment.

Perform proficiency testing to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies

Assist department in writing and maintaining standard operating procedures for clinical assays. Document knowledge by reviewing and signing SOPs annually.

Follow laboratory policies and procedures such as attendance and time reporting policies.

JOB SUMARY:

2.1 Perform a wide variety of biochemical, microscopic identification and sensitivity tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.

2.2 Performs documentation relating to the clinical microbiology laboratory according the according the accreditation authorities.

DUTIES AND RESPOSIBLITIES:

SAMPLE PROCESSIN:

Checking the sample received in the Laboratory for correct labeling, match the doctor request; assess the quality and quantity of sample for processing.

Perform direct microscopy from the sample received in the clinical Microbiology Laboratory.

Uses appropriate media for cultivation and isolation of bacterial and fungal organism as to genus/species or general morphologic group from Patients body fluids, exudates, skin scrapping, Swabs, Tissue specimen. Water, air and environmental samples.

Use automated blood culture system for cultivation and isolation of isolates causing sepsis and bacteremia.

MICROORGANISM IDENTIFICATION:

Isolate bacteria and fungi and perform biochemical reaction and further identification tests.

Does stain like Gram stain, Ziehl Neelsen stain, Lactophinl cotton blue, Indian ink, modified ZN stain, Kinypun stain for nocardia, actinomycetes.

SENSITIVITY TESTING:

Determine the susceptibility of pathogenic organisms to antibiotic using standard CLSI guidelines.

Perform special test to identify multidrug resistant organism. QUALITY CONTROL:

Performs quality control tests in clinical microbiology lab as recommended in the policy.

Maintain quality control using ATCC strains; take appropriate corrective action whenever the quality control results are not within limits.

Perform external and internal quality assurance tests according to the policy. DOCUMENTATION:

Does antimicrobial sensitivity monitoring of the bacterial isolates recovered in the clinical Microbiology laboratory.

Maintain the quality control data as obtained from the quality control tests performed in the laboratory

OHS RESPOSSIBILITIES:

Does proper labeling appropriate storage of chemicals and maintain updated MSDS, following SOP for hazardous chemicals, demonstrate & inspection of PPE. OTHER RESPOSIBILITIES:

Performs the Hospital infectious control testing, Liaison with infection control nurse and doctor to provide necessary data for PCI in the hospital.

Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested by the supervisor.

Update files and documents of Microbiology inspection requirements (ISO reaccrediting, HAAD, JCI and any others Hospital audits), makes corrective action of unconformity tests.

Enter reports in the computer logged on the Hospital Managements system.

Prints checks and arranges reports for authorization by the pathologist

•Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information, reports and any other data obtained from the laboratory.

Cooperate and help colleague, personally refill the position in case of high loads.

Check the blood bank (blood collection, screening and blood separation process). Insure enough blood, plasma and platelets available for O.T.

Monthly and weekly order for all items of Laboratory requirements.

Contact with biomedical technician in case of instruments problems.

Always be warned of eventual problem and advising the medical coordinator

Do the duty roster.
