Kiewit International, Technical Writer Nov. 2018 – July 2020

Kiewit is a world class EPCC company that hired me to help them succeed in meeting timely submission of technical documents used to prepare a bid for a multi Billion dollar Liquefied Natural Gas project. The Joint Venture documentation required specific formatting for document control as specified by the Project Owner and his representatives. This also involved managing signoff procedures by Joint Venture Partners (version control) and technical experts such as:

Preparing and editing proposal documentation for many disciplines and specialties

Preparing manuals and Standards Documents

Preparing and editing training materials.

After finishing the work on the LNG proposal that was successful in landing the construction portion of the project I was assigned to work on several other projects to review, edit and otherwise update key company project documentation in the areas of construction, constructability estimation and project management by:

Preparing and editing Standard Operating Procedures for large scale LNG facility construction.

Editing and preparing training materials for several disciplines.

Documentation Standards Library: creation in Power BI to ensure that company Standards could not be altered:

Led meetings on creation of standard documents and document coding (meta data).

Created specialized Templates and participated in creation (team) of a an e-library in Power BI

Validated and uploaded all documents to the agreed to template and saved in SharePoint.

Used SharePoint documents to upload and maintain Power BI Library

Marketing: Created a Kiewit White Paper template and provided company technical experts with materials that could be used to generate new business featuring EPCC processes.

An Oil and Gas startup company hired me for a short term project to evaluate and produce a user guide on a new UI application for an innovative device that manages the production of oil and gas from several producing wells and manages the removal of waste water from the facilities. The new device required documentation to be used by technicians in the oil field to properly execute edge analytic functions by:.

Capturing screen shots from UI simulations and adding graphics from other company documentation.

Succeeded in adding User Guidance to marketing materials for use at trade shows.

Revised and updated existing legacy documentation for company staff and clients.

Succeeded in producing a revised user guide for new UI application within six weeks.

De Nora Water Technologies, Technical Writer, Oct. 2016 – Jan. 2017.

Used Meridian to carryout document control functions to research project information, verify data and to disseminate technical information using ShareFile to a variety of internal and external clients.

Applied Acrobat Pro to edit and prepare variations on new and existing Operation and Maintenance Manuals, that were used to support the five company product lines

Manufacturing Data Books were created using Meridian, MSOffice and Acrobat Pro, by merging documentation from several sources into one large document.

Engineering and commercial documents were edited, updated and refined to support professional staff needs in the sale and maintenance of company products.

The documentation produced was part of the contract with clients and was used for the construction and implementation (commissioning) of product in the field.

Supplying timely information to a client insured an $800,000.00 final payment for services rendered after product delivery

Hewlett Packard (HPI) Corp, - Technical Writer, Software R&D Unit, Jan. 2016 – Mar. 2016

Produced a key White Paper BIOS document by merging of three different technical documents in order to showcase a major improvement in the built- in security features involving BIOS and UEFI of new HP products.

Consulted with HP professional and marketing staff and produced an additional 8 White Papers by editing, updating and refining client facing marketing materials.

White Papers supported high end professional and commercial platforms, both Notebook and Desktop Model

Huntsman International Corporation LLC – Technical Writer, Global IT unit, Oct. 2015 – Dec. 2015 –

Documented a vast array of applications used in Corporate, Manufacturing and Engineering Sections of Huntsman International.

Process involved research on internal databases and other resources while populating a template to capture information about proprietary software used in various Huntsman operations around the world such as the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific.

Developed additional sections of the template in consultation with subject matter experts and created some training materials to train new technical writers on the project.

Advised Technical Owners of Huntsman software and applications about findings and made recommendations.

Weatherford International – Technical Writer, Engineering and R&D, Sept. 2013 – May 2015 Houston Texas

Developed a technical (user) manual and online contextual help feature for field testing a new multi-million dollar secure drilling application for both onshore and offshore drilling projects involved:

Worked closely with Subject Matter Experts to create detailed documented and tested of the evolving User Interface. The test results were recorded and all indentified bugs and deficiencies were brought back to the development team.

The theoretical background documents for various sections of the application were produced and refined in close collaboration with subject matter experts of the multi-disciplinary team.

The contextual help feature was created in HTML 5 format using Madcap Flare

Edited and updated standard reference methods for rig equipment calibration and FAT testing with subject matter experts.

Created a user manual for the assembly of key oil rig components.

Proposed a design change in the Managed Pressure Drilling hardware, which was subsequently implemented, that resulted in decreased drilling downtime.

Further improvements were made to the user manual including breaking up the Main manual into four specialized user manuals for technical staff involved with various stages of a drilling operation : operation, simulation, play-back and planning.

Helped professional staff prepare and edit standard reference methods for calibration of important hardware and control systems to be used in the field.

Environment Canada – Statistical Analyst, July 1981 – Sept. 2010, Ottawa Ontario Canada

Conducted air quality data analyses, producing and writing detailed national reports for diverse sectors, as well as contributing papers and articles to journals and other Government bodies such as Statistics Canada.

Authored of a series of air quality reports for the Canadian Government’s Department of Environment. The series consisted of biennial reports of air quality analytics derived from a national network of air monitoring stations and scientific expert analysis to communicate urban air quality trends in a concise and easy to understand format.

Published dozens of environmental air quality stories featured in Chatelaine Magazine, AWMA Journal and Environmental Newsletters. Reports were also published in the National State of the Environment Report, Air Quality Fact Sheets, and the Air Chapter of the Statistics Canada’s, Human Activities Report.

Developed a Quick-Reference “health effects matrix” for a series of fact sheets for non-technical government officials, the general public, and news media organizations which resulted in increased public awareness and encouraged industry response.

Participated in a departmental reporting team comprised of scientists, technicians and administrative personnel to develop impromptu presentations and reports for non-technical elected Canadian officials.

Led the effort to revamp the data analysis methodology for the National Urban Air Quality Trends report series, and wrote the technical guideline document for the improvement of the Index of the Quality of Air.

Applied ambient air quality objectives and conducted analysis of urban air quality data in order to document and communicate results for the Index of the Quality of the Air, and Smog Alerts.
