CAREER DEFINING ROLE IN THE ART OF LEADERSHIP CENTERED AROUND SCIENCE OF MEDICINE

“A good Leader has to be a good listener”- Hon. David J.Shulkin MD secretary for health, Department of VA once told me while having a casual chat at Morristown Medical Center where I represented medical leadership for Inpatient services & post-acute care services and where Dr Shulkin was the CEO.

I have conceptualized and implemented solutions to problems that were inherent to MMC, RWJBH and most recently with SJ Health system revealing my potential for leadership, unmasking my entrepreneurial qualities paving way to my quest to trace the footprints of people like Dr. David Shulkin, Dr. Mark Zucker, Dr. Robert Lahita, Dr. Stanley Fiel amongst others.

At Saint Joseph’ Health System, I conceptualized, implemented the Hospitalist Program and evolved it to expand across the health system at two of its hospitals, with academic and post-acute expansion in a short period of eighteen months. At RWJBH, I created specialty hospitalists in Heart and Lung Transplant, Post-Transplant Oncological disease, Advanced HF and Chronic Lung disease, all of which were a necessity for the institution at that time, rising up to the situation. As an altruist I want the care delivery to be patient centered and to provide them with value-based quality care that is affordable and accessible in a timely manner. As an entrepreneur I like to create a cohesive, comprehensive and competent approach to deliver this care using a multidisciplinary approach with accountability, accessibility and affordability. This personal statement has changed since I came into this profession as a resident, as a lead Hospitalist, as an academician and as a leader in strategic roles of healthcare delivery. The change is an adaptation to the dynamics of the business. If my personal statement has not changed since residency, I risk not being relevant anymore. Throughout the years I have honed the perfect balance of an Altruist and entrepreneur. This is my experience - the unquantifiable Factor in Leadership to provide care with quality and compassion if I am given an opportunity.
