I am Registered nurse for ** years that have been working in the HealthCare environment since

1989. I have extensive experience in all disciplines of a hospital, and have done nursing management and administration for the last 14 years. I completed my 4 year nursing diploma in 1992 that included General, Midwifery, Psychiatry and Community nursing. I have experience in all different aspects of nursing managerial non managerial, training and Clinical. I have a passion for nursing and enjoy it in full. My experience as a critical care nurse started in 1996 in an Orthopedic High care unit, after that I started rotating through all the units, Trauma ICU, Medical & Coronary care unit, Surgical ICU and the Cardio Thoracic Unit. In 2002 I started my Post basic training in Intensive Care @ the Randse Afrikaanse University (University of Johannesburg); I obtained my higher diploma in Critical Care with honors. The following year I did a year of Pharmacology @ the same university to complete my required credits according to the National Qualifications framework in South Africa. In 2004 I finished my post basic Qualification in Nursing Education and one-year diploma in Nursing Research Methodology. I was still working full time in the Intensive care unit and was promoted to a Clinical Facilitator for all the Critical Care students. Training was a satisfied challenge to me, I love to see students grow and reach their objectives. Setting high standards of performance for myself and others, assuming responsibility. In 2006 I was promoted the Unit Manager of a 17 bedded NICU and 9 bedded Pediatric ICU. I gained an enormous amount of life long experience in this challenging environment of extremely critical sick kids and neonates. In my daily activities I had the opportunity not only to improve my clinical knowledge and skills but also managerial. I started to develop a passion for Healthcare Management and gained insight to it. The occupancy of both units was > 80%. My total staff complement was 63 from all different cultures. In the NICU I was admitting all in born neonates according to the international and national admission guidelines. In the PICU all children from the age of 0-16years that are full the admission criteria get admitted to the PICU. My PICU was the only closed dedicated unit in the private sector in South Africa. The are currently still the center of excellence for Pediatrics and strive for the best outcomes for our patients by accomplishing tasks that consider all areas involved, no matter how small. We were also the only unit in South Africa that offered Veno-veno ECMO for our patients with non-cardiac related conditions. I researched the outcomes of our patients and did poster and abstract presentations at National and International congresses all over the world. In 2014 and 2015 I was awarded one of the top 50 Abstracts in the Netcare Healthcare Group in Johannesburg. Research is very important for the development of scientific based Nursing. In 2015, I transferred to Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital in the same region and in the same position as Unit manager of a 10 bedded NICU. My responsibility was to manage the unit and I was the Chairperson for the Resuscitation committee in the Hospital. I was regulating and co-ordinate the standards and training of the Resuscitation and Basic Life support program in the facility. From June 2016, my duties and responsibilities were extended to be the Unit Manager of the 30 bed Pediatric ward, the Clinical facilitator for the intensive care students and the NICU in the hospital. In 2015, I resumed my studies completed by Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Administration and education November 2016. In the beginning of 2017 I was the Head Nurse of a 57 bed Pediatric Surgical and Medical Building in Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Arryan Hospital, in Riyadh Saudi Arabia. As Head Nurse and Unit Manager I have the responsibility to manage the departments on the operational level of the organization. This includes the managing and developing of staff, financial, human resource etc. In July 2018 I was rewarded as the Best Head Nurse for the group.

In January 2018 I returned back to South Africa and resumed my managerial duties as unit manager in Netcare Parklands Hospital in NICU for a few months till I accepted a new challenge in Lenmed Ethekwini Cardiac Centre PCCU from June 2019 till current. End of March 2020 I started oversee the Adult CCU in our facility as with the start of the COVID pandemic our elective surgery in PCCU decreased. I converted the CCU in to a 18 bedded COVID ICU and it is currently running with a 100%.

My experience as a hands-on critical care nurse and manager gained me skills and knowledge to manage and lead a dynamic team in all aspects of an Healthcare organization including Financial, Human resources, Risk,Quality improvement and Education. I had the opportunity to develop a strategic and organizational plan for the department and to implement an action plan to ensure the achievement of Organizational goals. As a Head Nurse/Unit Manager I had the opportunity to be the operational manager of the hospital on several occasions and was expected as my daily duties to shift over weekends and after hours. My daily activities and responsibilities include: Empowering: Giving workers at all levels a voice by empowering them through the sharing of information and the delegation of decision-making authority to the people most competent to execute them. I have different categories of staff working under me. It is important for me to continually review what can be delegated and willingly assigns appropriate responsibility and authority to others to carry out specific tasks/ roles in accordance with clear expectations. Readily and appropriately transfers to others the power to act, makes decisions, or allocates resources on his/her behalf. Allows delegates to take charge and assume full responsibility for the delegated task while maintaining accountability and support. Staff gets exposed to a continuous learning environment by on the spot training, implementation of in-service programs and attending of workshops.

Energizing: I believe in living by example, by being a role model to my staff I strongly motivate them to deliver the best patient care. Shows a strong, enthusiastic commitment to the company’s vision, mission and values and a relentless diligence and interest in furthering the goals. Takes the lead in setting an example for others by demonstrating admirable qualities and work competencies that others can emulate, and in so doing, encourages others to aspire to be better people.

Teambuilding: I give the staff a structure and a clear focus; motivate active participation so that team success can be reached. We have monthly unit meetings where all problems and potential problems can be identified and solutions can be discussed. I adjust my own views for the good of my team. I encourage staff to challenge difference in views and deal with conflict constructively, to see conflict as a natural process. We promote an atmosphere of unity and shared commitment.

Outside orientation: The parents/family of the patients are our customers and we need to actively seek information to understand customers’ circumstances, problems, needs and value expectations. I constantly need to remind the staff that we need to effectively meet our customers’ needs. Staff needs to take responsibility for customer satisfaction, the need to take prompt action. Action plans need to be identified and implemented to ensure customer satisfaction.

Tenacity: In my daily duties I am often faced with difficult decisions, opportunities and ethical standards, but I demonstrate consistency in the face of resistance, challenge or opposition. I don’t get easily discouraged and maintain an optimistic outlook despite’ s obstacles, resistance and unfair remarks. Strategic plans, alternative approaches and increase in effort are my actions.

Emotional intelligence: I can demonstrates consideration and empathy for others by putting myself into another's shoes and valuing people as humans with individual feelings, needs and potential. Is sensitive to the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of others and displays an active interest in what others have to say by listening with undivided attention in a genuine effort to understand the speaker's message and the emotions and feelings underlying the message. Helps others identify, understand and benefit from their emotions. I generate trust by consistently keeping promises and commitments, towards my staff and the other stakeholders. I appreciate my staff and demonstrate care, actively listening to staff and parents complaints. I believe in open communication in an honest and respectful way. I do not abuse my power.

I have so much confidence in my ability to convey my knowledge to others, share my experience and be responsible to guide others to be empowered to deliver the best nursing care to those that need it.
