Travis McAvene has been actively coaching basketball for over 21 years. During his time in coaching, he has built a great reputation as one of the best offensive minds in the coaching profession. He also has won and built championship teams at every level of basketball. McAvene jumped onto the international scene as a Head Coach in 2012 with our USA Jones Cup Men’s National Team, which competes against all Olympic National Teams across Asia and the Middle East in Taiwan live on Fox Sports. He has led the USA Jones Cup Men’s National Team to a silver medal in 2012 and bronze medal in 2013 as Head Coach. During these two years, the USA Jones Cup Team led the tournament in scoring and displayed a very up-tempo style of basketball. McAvene’s coaching career began as a varsity assistant coach at Lincoln High School

(1998-99) in Cambridge City, Indiana. He then was hired as one of the youngest Head College Basketball Coach’s at Indiana University-East (1999-2000) in Richmond, Indiana. McAvene then went on to become coach at Clark State Community College, where he helped resurrect a losing program into a winner immediately. From 2002-2004, McAvene became one of the most successful prep school coaches in the country winning back to back prep school national championship at the Division II and III level at New Creations Prep in Richmond, Indiana. During this time, McAvene ‘s teams led the country in scoring in their division and won over 30 games each season. In 2005, McAvene took over the Christian Center Prep Academy program in Cincinnati, Ohio. During the 2004-2005 season, McAvene led CCA to a national championship game appearance and a 30-4 record.

In 2006, McAvene was Head Coach at Harmony Prep School in Cincinnati, Ohio where he built one of the best prep school basketball program's in the country and #2 national ranking behind Oak Hill Academy.

From 2002-2006 as a head coach, McAvene sent over 30 players to the NCAA Division I level. In the summer of 2006, McAvene began his NCAA Division I college basketball coaching career at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland. There he was in charge of recruiting and worked beside legendary coach Ron “Fang” Mitchell. In 2008, McAvene went back to high school level as a head coach at Westfall High School in Williamsport, Ohio.

In 2009, McAvene led Westfall to their best record in school history and first conference championship in 30 years. He was named SVC Conference Coach of the Year. In 2010, McAvene entered the professional basketball world accepting a head coaching position with the Columbus Crush (ABA). During the 2010-2011 season, McAvene placed four out of his five starters at the overseas professional level.

In 2011, McAvene took over as Head Coach of the Cincinnati Slam (UBA), where is he was named UBA Coach of the Year in 2012. McAvene was also named 2012 Eurobasket All- United States Coach of the Year.

He was later named Head Coach for the 2012 USA Jones Cup National Team in Taiwan. From 2012-2014, McAvene took over as Head Coach for Southern State College in Hillsboro, Ohio. During this time, McAvene lead Southern State to a 25-3 record and finished

In the fall of 2013, McAvene was named General Manager for the USA Jones Cup National Team. McAvene was responsible for hiring current NBA coach Sam Mitchell of the Minnesota Timberwolves. In August of 2014, McAvene was featured in the world famous Bleacher Report with the USA Jones Cup National Team in Taiwan.

Coach McAvene was named Head Coach for the USA Copa Mitchell America’s Team in the Dominican Republic in March of 2014 and was offered this position thru 2016. McAvene brought home a championship at the 2015, 2016 and 2017 FIBA Copa Mitchell America’s Cup and was also named Best Coach by LatinBasket.com each year. McAvene was featured in Pro Baller Magazine in 2017 as being one of the best Coaches in the country.

In 2017 McAvene was named Head Men’s Coach for HAB Sonics Professional Club in Turks and Caicos Islands, which also competed in the Dominican Republic at 2018 Copa Mitchell America’s Cup.

McAvene has been very involved with helping expand basketball in Turks and Caicos Islands with skill development training and getting their countries best players opportunities to play college basketball in the United States.

In 2018 McAvene was named Head Men’s Basketball Coach with Chabibeh Professional Club in Beirut, Lebanon. McAvene brought home a Championship winning the 2018 Mediterranean Cup in Barcelona, Spain. McAvene was also named Eurobasket All Liga Mediterranean Cup Coach of the Year.

In late 2018 McAvene was named Head Coach for the Tonga Olympic Men’s National Team. McAvene won the countries first International Championship in history winning the 2019 Copa Mitchell America’s Cup in Santiago, Dominican Republic! He was also named Latinbasket Coach of the Year.

In 2020, McAvene was named Head Coach for Santiago Basket Professional Club in the Dominican Republic. McAvene recently won the 2020 Copa Mitchell America’s Cup Championship in Santiago this past January. McAvene was also named Latinbasket Coach of the Year.

Now, McAvene resides in Dayton, Ohio with his daughter Jada. McAvene also is very involved with his community with youth basketball training and development, which all is a part of TEAM TMAC Basketball Training & Consulting.
