Research Interest

Light-matter interaction in the lower dimensions:

My doctoral thesis was on realization of ZnO based e cient nano/micro lasers for light emission and sensor applications in the visible spectral range. The work involves fabrication of ZnO nano and micro structures with stabilizing the rare-earth ions in the lattice to introduce the 4f levels within the forbidden gap. These structures function both as a light emitting centre and a resonating cavity. High Q and low threshold WGM lasing at various ranges of the visible spectrum is realized from RE:ZnO microspheres for the rst time. Highly sensitive temperature tuning of the WGM is achieved. ZnO is a well-known cost-e ective and bio-compatible material. These RE:ZnO micro- spheres with only a trace amount of RE could be devised into miniature temperature sensors that operate in the visible spectral range and could contribute to the scienti c research to ful l the world’s growing demand for the e cient temperature sensing devices. Moreover, the resonances can be further enhanced by plasmonic coupling and can also be explored for various sensing (anything which can alter the refractive index of the resonator) applications extending to molecular level biosensing.

Further, I would like to explore these microspheres for their potential applications in quantum information processing particularly for single photon emission and for the e ective light-matter interaction by coupling with the di erent quantum emitters. I am also open to work on WGR based on di erent materials and other spectral regions as well. Skills
