University of California- Berkeley College of Civil & Environmental Engineering Yerba Buena Island Project 10/2020-1/2021

Under the guidance of Professor Jack Moehle

• Calculated estimate weight, seismic base shear, and wall thickness and drawing 2D design in Auto CAD. Concluded the calculation process and steps in Math CAD.

• Designed vertical wall reinforcement to satisfy the P-M interaction strength design requirements for the core wall by using preliminary dimensions and results of ETABS analyses.

• Designed the wall shear reinforcement, representative coupling beam, typically elevated diaphragm, and podium diaphragm by using ETABS analysis results

• Checked design requirements for gravity framing and detailed the wall boundary element. University of Missouri - Columbia College of Civil & Environmental Engineering Ultrasonic Stress Measurement 09/2019-12/2019

Research Assistant under the guidance of Associate Professor Sarah Orton 10 hours/week

• Polished the W-flange beams and members with an electric grinder and removed the rust on the samples.

• Collected the data of the 25 marked spots on the W-flange beam using ultrasonic waves via a portable ultrasonic instrument.

• Processed the collected data with a specialized laboratory computer software “UT2” (UT Stress Measurement Analysis) and calculated the birefringence and total stress on steel W-flange members. Slab-Column Connection Test 07/2019-09/2019

Research Assistant under the guidance of Associate Professor Sarah Orton 10 hours/week

• Built formwork with steels for slab-column connection test specimens and poured the concrete for specimens.

• Learned how to install a microchip on the slab column and connected the wire for observation of samples via a computer in the lab.

• Made specimens by pouring concrete into the cylinder molds to observe and calculate the concrete strength.

• Studied the influence of long-term high sustained stress on the slab connection. MISSOURI ASPHALT PAVEMENT AND INNOVATION LAB (MAPIL) 06/2019-08/2019 Research Intern under the guidance of Professor William G. Buttlar and Doctor Behnam Jahangiri 18-20 hours/week I. Performance Testing of Asphalt Mixtures at Low and High Temperatures

• Participated in the production of asphalt samples in the lab and conducted Disk-shaped Compact Tension (DCT) and Indirect Tensile (IDT) tests to assess the performance of asphalt at different loading and temperature conditions.

• Studied the structural properties and crack resistance of various asphalt mixtures and understood the application of different additives such as Ground Tire Rubber (GTR) in asphalt.

• Proposed an idea to install a camera (brand Go-Pro) inside the dark chamber to observe the propagation of the crack. II. Application of a Smart Phone-Based Molecular Sensor to Characterize Asphalt Mixtures and Binders

• Identified molecular characteristics of materials by detecting the surfaces of different mixed asphalt samples using SCiO molecular sensor through infra-red spectroscopy.

• Analyzing the raw data in spreadsheets and classifying different asphalt mixtures and asphalt binders based on their spectra.

III. Microwave Heating and Healing of Asphalt Materials

• Processed the thermal images of cracked samples heated in the microwave oven to collect and analyze the heat absorption capacity of asphalt samples.

ARCHITECTURE DESIGN EXPERIENCE

Research of Jewel at Changi Airport 09/2020-11/2020 Under the guidance of Professor Simon Schleicher Teammates: Quan Zhou, Yueci

• Studied and collected basic information about the Jewel at Changi Airport, learned structural system work and construction produce.

• Remodeled the surface, subdivided the surface to find beams and columns, form founded by volume, and created a pattern by mesh.

• Processed shell analysis (utilization, displacement, forces) using Kangaroo, Karamba 3D, and Rhino Vault 2 for beam and shell. Compared results of beam analysis and shell analysis to study concepts of the shell structures. Design of Meditation Room in Legion of Honor Museum 11/2020-1/2020 Under the guidance of Professor Simon Schleicher Teammates: Quan Zhou, Yueci

• Analyzed seashell typed structures’ architecture properties and structural properties and studied the design of seashell parameters (path, section, growth, and vertical displacement).

• Designed a meditation room with seashell type in Legion of Honor Museum by changing the parameter of the seashell. And separate meditation spaces and tour paths were designed.

• Processed the designed meditation room into Rhino to make utilization, displacement, forces analysis by using Kangaroo, Karamba 3D, and Rhino Vault 2. These quantitative analyses made the design work more reasonable and stable. Research of Zaha Thallus Installation 1/2021-2/2020 Under the guidance of Professor Simon Schleicher Teammates: Carmen Carretero Martinez

• Collected basic information about Zaha Thallus Installation.

• Studied design process of thallus growth simulation, which was combined with density, fabrication, and bundling parameter. Understood parametric design of growth simulation in grasshopper.

• Investigate formwork fabrication duration (hot wire cutting and 3D printing) with a robotic arm. And studied hot wire cutting and 3D printing’s programming in Rhino KUKA.

WORK AND ACTIVITIES

SOM’s Global Virtual Shadowing program 01/2021

• Studied first-hand knowledge of the skills and education requirements necessary to pursue careers while accompanying SOM’s teams on virtual site visits and attending virtual project meetings which explore individual passions.

• Shared both educational and work experiences, and gained a well-rounded perspective on SOM and the day-to-day experiences of SOM professionals.

Berkeley Innovative Solutions Consulting —Axiom Cloud Virtual Technician APP 02/2021-present

• Leaded the team and participated in data analysis and issue identification of refrigeration system data. Created a generated list of maintenance issues, categorized issues, quantified frequency of occurrence, and avg. cost per incident.

• Matched Virtual Technician’s capabilities to refrigeration system issues. Determined which issues VT can detect and success rate of catching above issues.

• Created dynamic tool. Defined customer inputs and range of values and built a predictive model in Excel that estimates the financial impact of VT.

Peer Learning Tutor -University of Missouri College of Civil & Environmental Engineering 09/2018-05/2020
